Software Engineer - Machine Learning, AI, and Agentic Systems

Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and curious Software Engineer to join our team and help build the next generation of intelligent software solutions. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers to design, develop, and maintain applications that harness the power of Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and agentic systems—autonomous programs capable of adapting and interacting with their environments. This position offers the opportunity to learn best practices in software engineering, contribute to the integration of AI-driven features, and support the creation of systems that truly think and act. You will collaborate with diverse teams and receive mentorship, all while developing your technical and problem-solving skills in the exciting field of Agentic AI.

Key Responsibilities

• Software Development: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software applications that incorporate ML and AI algorithms, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Mentorship and Guidance: Provide mentorship to students and recent graduates, offering guidance on best practices in software engineering, ML, and AI, and helping them develop their technical skills.
• Integration of AI Solutions: Collaborate with data scientists and product teams to integrate pre-trained machine learning models and AI solutions, including those from OpenAI and other cloud-based services, into applications.
• Agentic System Design: Create and implement agentic systems that can autonomously perform tasks, interact with users, and adapt to changing environments, enhancing overall system efficiency.
• FastAPI Orchestration: Develop and manage FastAPI applications to orchestrate microservices, enabling seamless communication between different components of the system and ensuring efficient data flow.
• Cloud Deployment: Utilize cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to deploy AI solutions and manage infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
• Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including product management, UX/UI design, and data engineering, to gather requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
• Research and Innovation: Stay current with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and agentic technologies, evaluating their potential applications and driving innovation within the organization.
• Performance Monitoring: Implement monitoring and logging solutions to track the performance of FastAPI applications and AI integrations, ensuring optimal operation and quick identification of issues.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software designs, algorithms, and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and future development.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on ML and AI applications.
  • Proven experience in integrating AI solutions, particularly using OpenAI and other cloud-based services.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Experience with agentic AI concepts and technologies, including autonomous systems and intelligent agents.
  • Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs using FastAPI, including experience with API orchestration and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for deploying AI solutions.
• Software Engineering Skills:
  • Solid understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and best practices.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Analytical Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
• Communication Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with natural language processing (NLP) and computer vision applications.
• Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of ethical considerations and best practices in AI and ML development.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$72,100.00 - $144,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
