Energy storage is the key to unlocking a future where our world is powered by renewable resources. At Convergent Energy and Power, our mission is to make the electrical grid cleaner, more reliable, and less expensive by leveraging state-of-the-art energy storage and distributed generation technologies.

The Director, Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Strategy role plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and executing a go-to-market strategy for Convergent’s C&I business line. That includes identifying relevant new market opportunities, working as a trusted partner with the sales team to drive our growth, and breaking down barriers to market success both internal and external to the company.

This is an individual contributor role and therefore does not have any direct reports but will exercise informal mentorship and guidance to junior staff.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Planning and Market Analysis (70%)

o Present those recommendations to the Executive Committee and other senior leaders as these may impact on multiple departments.

o Ensure that Convergent is the leading storage provider to C&I customers, both retrofitting existing sites and equipping the next generation of load growth.

o Maintain foundational knowledge and awareness of the market landscape, such as through regulatory dockets and intelligence databases, to facilitate Convergent being early to emerging opportunities.

o Manage the launch of new products, including the cross-functional implementation of the launch plan.

o Develop external collateral and train the sales team in how to use it.

o Work with the C&I Sales team and other relevant departments to remove barriers to deal progression, both within specific opportunities and in a cross-cutting manner. These can include the basic design of an asset, the financial wrapper, or market/regulatory interdependencies.

o Provide informal leadership and foster cross-functional collaboration by serving as a trusted partner with the sales team to drive growth and navigate complex organizational structures, making utility-specific decisions independently while escalating broader organizational challenges to the Head of Strategy.

Required Qualifications

o 7+ years of experience in the energy industry.

o Knowledge of the US battery storage markets, including understanding of regulatory requirements, market dynamics, and technological trends.

o Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, CRM and project management software (Hubspot, ClickUp), and market intelligence databases.

o Strong communication skills, especially in verbal presentation and written prose.

o Ability to structure complex ideas and input into clear, actionable recommendations.

o Results-driven with a bias towards action.
