Job Summary:
A Recreation Center Director III plans, coordinates and directs a recreation program in a large multi floor center, satellite center and/or pool. Work of this class may involve supervising full-time or part-time recreation leaders or aides.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, which includes evening and weekend hours. Work is performed in a recreation center where unpleasant working conditions are rarely encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion. Work is performed in recreation centers, athletic fields, pools and other facilities where inclement weather conditions may be encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications:
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
Education: Have a bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education, recreation administration, communication, leisure services or a related field.
AND
Experience: Have five years of experience managing a recreation facility or program.
OR
Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master's degree in one of the above areas from an accredited college or university may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
Must hold or be able to acquire within one year of hire and maintain a Certified Pool Operator certification and First Aid/CPR.
Must hold or be able to acquire within one year of hire and maintain Certified Parks and Recreation Professional Certification.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation program development.
Knowledge of the rules and regulations of a wide variety of sports, games and recreational activities.
Knowledge of the use and care of recreational equipment.
Ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate a recreational program.
Ability to lead a variety of recreational activities.
Ability to assign and review work.
Ability to establish a satisfactory relationship with the community.
Ability to work effectively with large groups of people of varying ages.
Ability to maintain discipline and order.
Ability to maintain records and write reports.
Background Check
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation

Examination Process
