The Boeing Company is looking for a Command & Control Software Architect to join the Ground Software Engineering team located in El Segundo, California. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Satellite Systems Software Engineering organization.

Our team creates the software tools and services for the world’s highest performing satellite/ground systems for USG and Commercial customers. We work with space customers in the development of the next generation ground systems.

This is an opportunity to work in a rapid development environment using modern technology, architecture, and tools. Our team works within an agile methodology using a CI/CD environment; integrated with automated testing, vulnerability, & quality scanning capabilities.

You will directly partner with customer counterparts and program management to deliver the highest value capabilities, performing demonstrations along the way.  The candidate should possess excellent understanding of software architecture, communications skills and work well in a team environment to support the needs of the Integrated Product Team.

This senior position requires proven experience within the software ecosystem, a unique background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and capabilities. Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required!

Position Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop high-performance Command and Control (C2) software solutions for complex, real-time, mission-critical systems.
  • Lead the software development process from architecture and design through to implementation and deployment, leveraging GitLab for version control, issue tracking, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Oversees the design, development, analyses, and maintenance of software systems that meet design practices, customer and internal quality, safety, and security standards.
  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to inform system definition and oversees translation of system-level requirements into software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements and have clear traceability to design, code and test artifacts.
  • Oversees completion of software system-level analyses to identify risk, issues and opportunities; oversees integration and deployment of mitigation actions throughout the software lifecycle.
  • Oversees monitoring and reviewing test completion, verification processes and issue resolution for software systems.
  • Oversees review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards by performing design reviews.
  • Oversees code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge and object-oriented design and software patterns
  • 5+ years’ experience leading projects and/or individuals though the software development lifecycles
  • Experience with architectural reviews and ensuring adherence to best practices and standards (e.g. scalability, security, maintainability)
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance (interim prestart, final post start)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing software architecture patterns (e.g., microservices, monolithic, domain-driven)
  • Experience with implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.
  • Experience in Command and Control (C2) systems, real-time applications, and their specific requirements (e.g., high availability, low-latency processing, fault tolerance).
  • Familiarity with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Gitlab, bitbucket, etc.) and automation services (e.g., Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD, etc.).
  • Experience with database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, ActiveMQ), and/or data streaming technologies (e.g., CCSDS).
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range: Lead / $167,450 - $226,550

                                       Principal / $193,800 - $262,200

This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Security Clearance:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim U.S. Secret Clearance Pre-Start and final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
