Backflip’s capital product menu primarily consists of fix and flip financing (RTL), and we are actively expanding into rental loans (DSCR), business-purpose HELOC, and related products.

As a Software Engineer at Backflip, you will play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of our products and platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, take ownership of challenging projects, and contribute to the success of the company. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while embracing a collaborative mindset.

This position reports to the Head of Engineering, and is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a 45 person team with a great culture. Backflip is backed by best-in-class venture capital firms (Series A), and has approximately ~$200M of institutional capital under management to anchor our lending capabilities, as well as an in-house loan servicer.

What You’ll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain full-stack solutions using Python, Typescript, React, and React Native.

• Innovate and execute on features to enhance the user experience and platform capabilities.

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software.

• Contribute to the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable and maintainable code.

• Leverage AI development tools to elevate personal productivity and improve code quality.

• Deploy applications to various cloud-based environments, ensuring reliability and performance.

• Collaborate with teams to build RESTful APIs and other backend technologies.

• Estimate work efforts accurately and ensure project milestones are met.

• Stay current with industry trends and bring innovative ideas to the team.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (3+ years) in building applications.

• Proficiency in Python and/or Typescript, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming.

• Familiarity with front-end technologies like JavaScript and React.js.

• Mastery of software development best practices and principles.

• Proficiency at prompting and integrating AI tools.

• Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

• Familiarity with cloud frameworks such as AWS, GCP, Cloudflare, or similar.

• Strong understanding of design patterns, algorithms, and data structures.

• Experience with RESTful APIs, backend technologies, and web frameworks.

• Familiarity with Docker and container-based environments.

• Ability to provide accurate estimates and deliver high-quality code within deadlines.

Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary and a performance-based bonus, and is based on a variety of factors including prior experience, geographic location, stock option grant, and other factors.
