Assistant Editor

The Assistant Editor on the Bibles/Catechisms/Church documents team will primarily be responsible for proofreading the text of products and marketing copy, as assigned by the team project manager. Copyediting and other editorial tasks may also be assigned.  This position requires the ability to multitask, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform assigned editorial responsibilities in an organized and efficient manner, including but not limited to 
• Proofreading content at various stages of production, including printer proofs
• Proofreading marketing campaign emails and copy
• Ensuring all content is accurate and complete, adheres to Ascension’s house style (as appropriate), and aligns with our mission.
• Review of backlist projects to determine refresh opportunities
• Review of materials as assigned for style, tone, brand consistency, and theological accuracy and completeness.
• Develop and maintain effective communications with the entire product team cooperatively and professionally with all levels of staff.
• Perform additional editorial work and duties as assigned by the project manager, including but not limited to: research, responding to editorial inquiries, processing imprimatur reviews, and adding corrections to the reprint record, as needed.

• A bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience in publishing, communications, writing, or editing preferred.
• Excellent writing and editing ability.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Docs.
• Experience working in a Google Suite preferred.
• Proficiency in The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition required.
• Familiarity with the USCCB style guide is a plus.
• Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written skills required.
• Strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously to meet tight deadlines.
• Occasional travel to Exton, PA, is required.
