Job Summary

Aptive is seeking support the Mission Daybreak 2.0 contract to support VA’s Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Innovation Ecosystem. The program builds on VA’s innovation and human-centered design frameworks to rapidly test, evaluate, and scale solutions that reduce Veteran suicide. Aptive’s team will manage a portfolio of innovation projects, coordinate governance and reporting, deliver evaluation and research insights, plan stakeholder and engagement events, and support the development of scalable training and communications products.

 

Primary Responsibilities

This hybrid role blends senior-level communications strategy with technical writing and editing expertise to ensure the program’s wide portfolio of deliverables is accurate, compelling, and accessible. The specialist develops high-visibility communications products including briefing decks, one-pagers, abstracts, options memos, and executive summaries for leadership and stakeholders. They also produce polished collateral that supports portfolio governance and event packages (such as run-of-show scripts, fact sheets, and after-action summaries). As the program’s senior editor, they review evidence briefs, evaluation reports, and technical documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency with VA and federal standards, and Section 508 compliance. The specialist works across teams—project managers, analysts, designers, and event staff—to make sure each product clearly communicates evidence and decisions to audiences ranging from technical experts to senior leaders.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree.
  • 8 years of experience in communications, public relations, or technical writing.
  • Proven ability to write and edit professional documents for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of medical and healthcare industry terminology.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting VA communications, publications, or technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Skills in simplifying technical material into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Optional: Familiarity with document formatting and design tools (Adobe, MS Publisher, or similar).

The Office of Suicide Prevention leads VA’s national strategy to reduce Veteran suicide through prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts. The VHA Innovation Ecosystem partners with OSP to accelerate promising ideas from pilot to practice across the VA healthcare system. Together, these offices foster collaboration with Veterans, clinicians, and innovators to identify effective solutions, strengthen system readiness, and improve outcomes for Veterans and their families.
