Skills
- Proficient CAD skills and production-quality engineering drawings
- Hands-on fabrication and assembly experience (hand tools, mill, lathe)
- Strong fundamentals: statics, solid mechanics, heat transfer, materials
- Experience creating and executing hardware test plans and data collection
- Ability to integrate electronics, optical, or RF components into mechanical designs
- Clear technical communication and documentation skills
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end hardware design (CAD, calculations, prototypes) from concept to launch
- Pace and mature designs with holistic program-level considerations
- Communicate architecture tradeoffs and packaging implications to stakeholders
- Lead subsystem design reviews and report technical status and timelines
- Act as Responsible Engineer: run analysis, define and execute hardware test plans, and visit vendors
- Build and iterate prototypes, perform failure analysis, and transition to flight/low-rate production
- Travel to test sites and vendors as required
- Produce thorough technical documentation: drawings, test plans, procedures, reports, and SOWs
Education
- BS or higher in engineering or a hard science
