About the Position:


The Engagement Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating all aspects of the project.  This position develops, interprets, and administers policies and procedures governing the project, and administers appropriate strategies for recruitment, selection, and retention of staff.  This management-level position oversees the delivery of services, ensures contract compliance with CDCR and PGYCC policies, procedures and fiscal regulations.  This position acts as the operations manager over all staff at PGYCC and is located at PGYCC 


What You Will Do:
  • Ensures compliance with the contract and CDCR policy expectations of contract employees 
  • Oversees the management information system (MIS) for all data collection systems. 
  • Ensures timely responses to CDCR and PGYCC requests for statistics, reports and data. 
  • Develops quality control procedures to ensure high-quality service. 
  • Ensures the provision of a strength-based, trauma-informed model. 
  • Responsible for overall supervision and oversight of all contract staff to ensure service delivery meets organizational standards and contractual obligations. 
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of programmatic process, incorporating principles and techniques of individual, small, and large group counseling. 
  • Monitors the casework of project staff. 
  • Addresses the operational needs associated with PGYCC project. 
  • Provides in-service training and on the job training for new program facilitators, non-paid CDCR youth/peer facilitators, as well as PGYCC staff as needed. 
  • Implements appropriate strategies for recruitment, selection, training, and retention of staff. 
  • Responsible for fiscal monitoring of expenditures; and  
  • Ensures contract staff compliance with CDCR policies and procedures and work collaboratively with CDCR and institution staff. 


What You Will Offer:
  • Education and Experience: 
  • Required:
  • Five (5) years of youth or young adult programming experience in a correctional or community-based setting; OR 
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, criminal justice or other related field AND three (3) years of documented experience of operational responsibility in a youth or young adult program. 
  • Must pass a background check administered by CDCR. 
  • Preferred:  
  • Lived Experience (formerly incarcerated or justice involved) with demonstrated ability to live productive and law-abiding lives considered an asset for this position. 
  • Continuing Education/Training: 
  •  Within specified contract timeframes, personnel file shall document evidence of participation in the following trainings: 
  • New Employee Orientation (Organizational and Institutional Orientation) 
  • Initial orientation to CDCR and PGYCC policies and procedures provided by CDCR 
  • Motivational Interviewing 
  • Monthly Training 
  • Additional training topics relevant to the delivery of treatment services may include: 
  • Required Curriculum 
  • Case management and record keeping requirements, including ARMS 
  • Appropriate required individualized treatment/action plan documentation 
  • Working with participant in a secure facility setting 
  • Professional ethics and overfamiliarity 
  • Confidentiality (Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 2) 
  • Process group and cognitive skills group 
  • Counseling and other skills necessary to develop a treatment community within a prison setting 
  • Therapeutic community concepts 
  • Trauma-Informed Care  
  • Criminal justice treatment 
  • Gender responsive treatment 
  • Criminality 
  • Impact of trauma on SUD and criminality 
  • Treatment of trauma 
  • Treatment within a diverse offender population 
  • Issues impacting SUD and criminality 
  • Cultural Competency Training 
Skills/Abilities: 
  •  Highly competent in organizational leadership and contract compliance. 
  • Ability to integrate, disseminate, and implement requirements, reporting timeframes and/or procedure changes as indicated by CDCR. 
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train a multi-disciplinary team; and, 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written communications and typing skills.
