At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

Enterprise Data Products (EDP) is part of the larger Technology organization, supporting critical initiatives sponsored by the Chief Data Officer. As we continue to invest in Enterprise Data Management(EDM) program, EDP is responsible for creating robust and scalable suite of Enterprise Data Management products that support implementation of enterprise-wide data policies and standards.

American Express continues to invest in enterprise data management, running large scale, multi-year programs to improve end-to-end data lifecycle capabilities, policies, and processes. As part of the journey, we are seeking a Vice President to lead Enterprise Data Management Products and Frameworks. This VP will be responsible for defining organization's strategy and development for key Enterprise Data Management Products (such as Enterprise Data Catalog, Lineage, Metadata Management, Data Products & Marketplace, GenAI solutions for Data Management, Data Incident Management Tooling), end-to-end management of the EDM tooling roadmaps, and the establishment and enforcement of enterprise data tooling frameworks.

This role entails leading three critical functions: 1). Lead Product Development for our Enterprise Data Management Tools, 2). Responsible for driving the overall EDM tooling roadmap, and 3). Develop and implement an enterprise framework for data tooling.

1. Enterprise Data Management Product Development:

  • Define and champion the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for our enterprise data management platforms, including but not limited to Enterprise Catalog, Lineage, Enterprise Data Products & Marketplace, Master and Reference data management (MDM) solutions, and metadata management solutions.
  • Lead the product lifecycle from ideation and requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing iteration.
  • Collaborate closely with business partners, engineering, architecture, Privacy, Third Party Management, and Enterprise Data Office teams to understand their needs and translate them into actionable product requirements.
  • Prioritize product features and manage the product backlog to ensure alignment with business objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and new technologies in data management to find opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Define and track critical metrics to measure the success and adoption of our data management products.

2. Lead all aspects of and Drive E2E Data Management Tooling Roadmap:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for our end-to-end data management tooling roadmap.
  • Drive the adoption and effective utilization of data management tools across various teams and functions.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for data management tooling solutions.
  • Develop and track program budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues associated with the data management tooling roadmap.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in data management tooling capabilities.

3. Develop and Implement Enterprise Data Tooling Frameworks:

  • Define and establish enterprise-wide data tooling frameworks, standards, and best-in-class practices to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance in data management processes.
  • Develop guidelines and documentation for the selection, deployment, and utilization of approved enterprise data management tools.
  • Collaborate with data governance teams to ensure tooling frameworks align with data policies, regulations, and security requirements.
  • Communicate and educate data practitioners across the organization on the established data tooling frameworks and their importance.
  • Monitor alignment with data tooling frameworks and identify areas for improvement and standardization.
  • Drive the development of training materials and programs to improve data literacy and proficiency in using enterprise data management tools.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine the data tooling frameworks based on evolving business needs and technological advancements.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience building and leading diverse, geographically dispersed, high-performing teams; extensive experience and success as a leader of leaders.
  • 10+ years of experience in global enterprise data management products at a large global company as a plus.
  • Experience operating in a technology- and data-heavy function, with ability to influence multi-functional senior collaborators on key Data Management and Data Governance concepts.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for great platforms, products and services and an ability to clearly articulate platform functionality
  • Superb communication skills with a demonstrated ability to convey complex concepts in a manner consumable by a broad collaborator base, including a senior executive audience.
  • The ability to bring structure to ambiguity and thrive in an unstructured, fast paced dynamic environment.
