Manager- Conduct Risk Management

At American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues. As part of Team Amex, you'll experience this powerful backing with comprehensive support for your holistic well-being and many opportunities to learn new skills, develop as a leader, and grow your career.

Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Enterprise Conduct Risk Management team within Global Risk and Compliance (GRC) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all processes and geographies at American Express. We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical professional to join our Independent Risk Management team as a Manager of Conduct Risk Management. This role will report to the Director, Enterprise Conduct Risk.

As a trusted colleague in the second line of defense, you will assess behavioral data, evaluate control environments, drive automation of reporting processes, and present actionable insights to senior leadership and governance committees. This position offers exposure to enterprise-level risk management, frequent interaction with stakeholders across the business, and an opportunity to influence key decisions that promote sound risk culture and accountability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide independent oversight of conduct-related behaviors, practices, and controls across the business, and challenge alignment with risk appetite limits and governance expectations
  • Analyze behavioral and transactional data to identify trends, potential risks or non-compliance with laws, regulatory requirements, and supervisory expectations
  • Design and review conduct risk controls and participate in control testing to assess effectiveness and policy adherence
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to communicate conduct risk trends and findings to senior management, risk committees, and the Board
  • Manage and track project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, escalating risks to delivery where appropriate
  • Support implementation and maintenance of enterprise conduct risk frameworks, including risk assessments and issue management
  • Monitor, assess, and manage risks arising from organizational, regulatory or environmental changes, so transitions do not expose the organization to new or unintended risks or lead to non-compliance with laws, regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations
  • Influence and help embed a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Statistics, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years in conduct risk management, or similar risk management discipline, within the financial services industry / Solid understanding of internal control frameworks and regulatory expectations for conduct risk
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; capable of synthesizing complex datasets into actionable insights with minimal oversight
  • Execution of thought leadership through demonstration of expertise, innovative thinking and ability to drive results
  • Proven ability to challenge constructively and communicate clearly and logically across all organizational levels
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • High degree of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced project management skills
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Coaching or mentorship experience
