Enterprise Data Risk Management (“EDRM”), within Global Risk & Compliance Organization, is the independent risk management function focusing on effective management of Data Risks throughout the Data Lifecycle to protect the enterprise from financial loss, reputational damage, loss of competitive advantage, and increased regulatory scrutiny across the globe.

EDRM is hiring a Director who will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of the comprehensive data risk management strategy to safeguard our organization's data assets and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.  The Director’s primary focus will be on data risk management as it relates to key reports.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the implementation of the strategic vision of Data Risk Management, aligning with the company's overall data risk management practices on data usability, data confidentiality, data availability and data integrity, throughout the Data Lifecycle, for AXP data managed internally and/or at third parties
  • Enforce Enterprise Data Risk Management policies and procedures as they apply to data used in key reports in alignment with industry regulations and global standards.
  • Conduct reviews of first line’s practices focusing on data used in key reports as they relate to data risk management, governance, operational execution of data controls, and adherence to policies/regulatory requirements. Document observations in accordance with applicable risk oversight programs, ensure timely remediation, and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Partner with teams across Global Risk and Compliance, Finance, the Enterprise Data Office and other business units to implement effective data risk mitigation strategies as they relate to key reports.
  • Monitor the development and implementation of the risk data aggregation and reporting framework focusing on data used in key reports.

 Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Risk Management, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related discipline is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field is required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in risk management, data risk, or enterprise risk reporting, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering high-quality risk reporting for senior leadership, risk committees, or board – highlighting key risk indicators, control performance and emerging risk themes.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data compliance, data-related issue management, and risk data aggregation and reporting practices in large financial services firms.
  • Experienced people leader with exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at the executive level.
  • Ability to work independently across a matrix organization, influence partners and enact excellent relationship building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to distill complex data risk topics into actionable insights for executive audiences.
  • A strong sense of integrity and courage to challenge the status quo.
  • Proficient in using data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL), and knowledge of database systems.
