- Proven experience owning and scaling market-facing trading or brokerage platforms
- Deep knowledge of execution systems, risk/margin engines, and trading analytics
- Strong architectural judgment for latency-sensitive and distributed systems
- Experience designing or operating cross-asset risk and margining systems
- Ability to partner effectively with senior business, product, and risk stakeholders
- Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences
Responsibilities
- Define and own the engineering roadmap for Alpaca’s institutional trading platform
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing engineering team with strong ownership and execution culture
- Drive architecture for multi-asset trading, cross-margining, and latency-sensitive systems
- Set and enforce standards for performance, availability, scalability, and operational resilience
- Coordinate cross-functional initiatives across trading, risk, margin, product, compliance, and operations
- Provide technical and architectural leadership and represent engineering in executive planning
- Participate hands-on: write PoCs, review code, deploy to production, and act as L3 escalation contact
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD/MBA) preferred but not required
