Job Summary
The Distributed Generation Services Specialist I is responsible for coordinating activity related to interconnection of distributed generation (DG) to the distribution system, including residential, commercial, and industrial customers and utility-owned DG in Interstate Power and Light (IPL) and Wisconsin Power and Light (WPL). Answers technical and program inquiries from both internal and external customers, via phone and email, related to the interconnection process, customer owned generation, and other renewable energy products.
What you will do
Serves as knowledgeable, responsive, point of contact for assigned customers and acts as a liaison between the DG customer and Alliant Energy. Establishes and maintains credibility, communications, and relationships with customers, key account managers, legal, engineering, internal stakeholders, executives, field personnel, and key company functional areas.
Responsible for accurate and timely processing of interconnection applications to ensure completeness, including evaluation of interconnection applications to determine adverse system impacts. Tracks, documents and updates interconnection projects using internal systems. Follows-up with internal and external customers on incomplete or inaccurate information making certain all regulatory requirements are met.
Works with customer accounts with distribution connected DG to create and enhance customer relationships. Coordinates activities internally and externally and anticipates and resolves DG-related problems and issues, including day-to-day operational concerns. Communicates with customers using a variety of means, while appropriately maintaining all customer records.
Coordinates the timely and accurate execution of standardized procedures for both IPL and WPL distribution interconnect processes in accordance with Iowa Administrative Code (IAC) Chapter 45 and 15 and Wisconsin Administrative Code (WAC) Public Service code (PSC) Chapter 119. Ensures correct application of codes, rules, and policies to distributed energy resources activities.
Assists with the development and maintenance of PowerClerk or similar interconnect system, including administration, configuration, and process management.
Compiles, interprets, and assimilates data for internal and external stakeholders, regulatory, or other reporting requirements, in timely and accurate manner.
Maintains solid working relationships with staff support functions in other departments including sales, pricing, customer service, research, finance, communications, regulatory, and legal.
May serve as a subject matter expert for areas including, but not limited to, customer owned generation, interconnection process, and renewable energy.
Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field. Preferred
Required Experience
2 years of related experience.
Preferred Experience
Experience in utility industry in engineering, field operations, distributed generation. Legal, account management, customer service, regulatory or business strongly preferred.

Pay Range:
$60,000-$68,000This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
