Job Description:
Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for Summer Interns at SWE 2025 to join our Engineering department based in Wichita, KS for our 2026 Summer Internship Program.
You will work with a team supporting aircraft structural design engineering activities. Activities can include design, static analysis and/or fatigue and damage tolerance analysis. Duties can include development of design data sets (3D modeling, 2D drafting, Bill of Material, Change Notes), supporting modifications or repair activities, and performing analyses for either metallic or composite aircraft components.

Your Working Environment:
Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus is Airbus’ first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe. Our team of 200+ support staff and engineers focus on aerostructure design including analysis of aircraft primary structures, such as wings and fuselages, for all major Airbus products across the globe.
Your Challenges:
Perform various design engineering activities to support production of aircraft or in-service aircraft.
Assignments may include detail part modeling, detail part sizing, layout maturation, trade study analysis, weight reduction efforts, certification activity, or in-service support.
Detailing data in support of trade studies for airframe structure.
Position requires basic knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods with a basic understanding of design principles.
Develop solutions to simple/routine technical problems of limited scope.
Applies technical principles and follows detailed instructions.
Effectively communicates issues, solutions, ideas, and status of current work to supervision.
Learn and apply tool sets effectively.

Must be present at SWE 2025 Conference in New Orleans, LA
Must be willing to relocate to Wichita, KS for the duration of the summer internship opportunity
Must be able to support Intern Program dates: May 18 - Aug 7, 2026
Current student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace / Mechanical / Civil Engineering degree. Curriculum exposure in airframe design, static analysis, mechanics of materials, and/or a CAD application is desired.
Minimum Sophomore level or enrolled in a Master's degree program is acceptable
Currently pursuing a Minor in Computer Science, preferred.
Exposure to/knowledge of Engineering Tools: Airframe design, MRB, CATIA, Isami, NASTRAN, and PATRAN, preferred
Proficiency with MS Office and G-Suite, required.
Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this opportunity.

Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
