IT Manager

WHO WE ARE

ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive.

Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a hands-on, people-first IT Manager to lead our Desktop Support and Systems Administration teams while driving broader IT strategy and operations. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth day-to-day IT operations of a fully remote, fast-paced organization while driving long-term strategic improvements in automation, performance, and service delivery. You'll manage a team of skilled ICs ranging from interns to senior administrators and serve as the operational and strategic lead for IT infrastructure, vendor relationships, budget management, and organizational technology planning.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Team Leadership & Performance

  • Directly manage a blended team of Desktop Support Specialists and Systems Administrators across multiple experience levels.
  • Manage team performance through regular 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, and professional development planning.
  • Create and maintain operational documentation and SOPs for your teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and feedback-rich team culture focused on continuous improvement and excellent service delivery.
  • Identify and remove roadblocks to team efficiency, helping individuals prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Strategic IT Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with business objectives and growth plans.
  • Manage IT budget planning, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations to optimize costs and service levels.
  • Lead technology roadmap planning and infrastructure investment decisions.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on technology initiatives that enable business growth and competitive advantage.
  • Oversee enterprise architecture decisions and evaluate new technologies for organizational adoption.

Operational Ownership

  • Oversee end-to-end onboarding and offboarding workflows, including:
  • Automated provisioning/de-provisioning through Okta.
  • JAMF-based device setup and management (MDM).
  • YubiKey hardware issuance and support.
  • Running onboarding sessions for new hires.
  • Manage day-to-day ticket escalations from desktop support and ensure timely and high-quality issue resolution.
  • Monitor support trends and proactively implement solutions to reduce repetitive issues or manual work.
  • Partner with People Ops and Security to align team practices with evolving company policies and compliance requirements.
  • Lead incident response for internal IT outages or major disruptions, coordinating timely communications and resolution.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure service delivery and inform improvements.
  • Evaluate and implement tools that improve internal IT processes and visibility, such as dashboards or ticketing enhancements.

Systems Administration & Infrastructure Management

  • Support and maintain a library of 130+ SaaS applications primarily managed through Okta.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess access needs, assign roles, and maintain audit readiness.
  • Drive automation initiatives around identity and access management (IAM), asset lifecycle management.
  • Lead infrastructure improvements, cross-departmental IT projects, system implementations, and technical initiatives.
  • Build and maintain a scalable hardware and software asset management program from procurement through offboarding.
  • Oversee disaster recovery planning, business continuity protocols, and risk management strategies.
  • Maintain strong security hygiene by coordinating regular access reviews and vulnerability remediation with Security.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 7+ years of experience in IT operations, including at least 3 years managing technical teams and IT strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring desktop support or sys admin teams.
  • Proven track record of IT budget management and vendor relationship oversight.
  • Strong understanding of MDM tools (preferably JAMF), identity providers (Okta), and enterprise security hardware (YubiKeys).
  • Proven success implementing or improving automated onboarding/offboarding workflows.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, technology roadmap development, and strategic IT decision-making.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, especially in a remote environment.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with executive leadership, P&C, Security, and other business units.

Preferred Qualifications

  • JAMF 200+ certification or equivalent MDM experience.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001) and IT audits.
  • Experience supporting a remote-first workforce.
  • Project management certification or demonstrated large-scale project leadership experience.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure management and optimization.
