Mechanical Design Engineer, Prototyping

In this role, you will apply your craft and passion to turn ideas into reality, leading projects to design and build prototypes for our autonomous vehicle platform. Working closely with cross-functional teams of designers and engineers, you will develop innovative AV hardware solutions that meet high standards of performance, safety, and scalability.
- Design and build complex mechanical prototypes and assemblies in CATIA, ensuring high performance and manufacturability.
- Accurately model surfaces, geometries, and assemblies for rapid prototyping and evaluation.
- Create detailed drawings, documentation, and BOMs to support fabrication, assembly, and testing.
- Develop tools, jigs, fixtures, and molds to enable efficient prototyping of components and composites.
- Collaborate across design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to drive innovative AV hardware solutions.
- Research and apply emerging materials and manufacturing techniques to accelerate development and decision-making.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or prototyping; automotive experience preferred.
- Expertise in 3D CAD design for solids and surfaces; CATIA V5/V6 preferred.
- Proven ability to lead complex prototyping projects across multiple functions.
- Hands-on prototyping experience with machining, welding, composites, or additive manufacturing.
- Experience managing suppliers to support prototyping efforts.
- Familiarity with documentation and project management tools such as Jira, Smartsheet, or Confluence.
