Windward School is looking for a Director of Data Management and Research Analyst. This position is the resident expert on Raiser’s Edge and iWave and responsible for ensuring that they are fully utilized to meet the information needs of the School’s development, alumni relations, and communications efforts. The Director provides expertise in the application of computer technology and information management strategies to meet organizational operating needs. In addition, this position provides support and coordination in the following areas of the Advancement Department: annual giving; alumni relations; prospect research and database management; communications, and foundation relations. 

The key areas of focus are:

Database Management

• Maintains the school’s Raiser’s Edge and iWave Development and Alumni Database
• Coordinates with the Director of Information Technology to perform Raiser’s Edge database maintenance, global updates, and integration with Education Edge
• Identifies best practices for database administration and works to ensure the appropriate systems are in place for managing the data
• Manages database to ensure that accurate, updated, and relevant information on donors, parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, corporations, foundations, community leaders, government officials, and other Windward constituents is maintained
• Processes all gifts, pledges, and pledge payments to the school
• Acknowledges gifts and generates pledge reminders
• Designs and implements database queries in response to requests for information; provides reports on gifts, pledges, progress towards fundraising goals, and other financial data
• Develops and produces mailing lists and labels, donor recognition lists, data files, prospective donor lists, and other information using Raiser’s Edge reporting tools for the Annual Fund, Campaigns, and other mailings
• Effectively utilizes Raiser’s Edge, iWave, Student Admin, Google, Excel, Word and other software programs to capture, retrieve, calculate and report data or manage fundraising lists
• Prepares the donor recognition lists for the school’s annual report
• Serves as the school’s Raiser’s Edge liaison with the Technology department, Business Office, as well as Blackbaud and other related software vendors; oversees the integration process across all Raiser’s Edge databases
• Ensures confidentiality of Raiser’s Edge and iWave data, including addresses and donor records
• Develops and implements a plan to improve the integrity of the database
• Handles reconciliation of all fundraising reports with the Business Office, including preparation of materials for auditors

Campaign Management

• Oversees the Prospect Management and Tracking System for the Capital Campaign, Major Gifts and Windward Fund; track on proposals, staff/volunteer assignments, and cultivation and solicitation initiatives
• Produces routine and custom reports for the Capital Campaign, Major Gifts, Annual Fund, Spring Event, and other fundraising initiatives
• Attends Campaign and Major Gifts Meetings and updates related action items
• Outsources and supports prospect screening and rating of prospects

Prospect Research

• Oversees the outsourcing of research on applicant families, including obtaining annual reports from local independent schools
• Identifies potential major donors from research and data analysis
• Researches linkages, financial capacity and interests, and generates profiles
• Analyzes information in documents and records to guide the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies
• Identifies and prepares profiles on potential volunteers to serve in key leadership positions, including the Board of Trustees, Alumni Board, Parent Guild, etc.
• Maintains research files on foundations, corporations, and individuals
• Prepares summary reports on attendees for events based upon established standards and procedures
• Keeps informed of new technology and resources used in prospect research

Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000, depending on experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of direct experience in Data Services and Prospect Research preferred
• Knowledge of prospect research and management techniques and sources
• Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, iWave, Blackbaud, and Student Admin 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Office
• Willingness to learn the philosophy and practices of fundraising to be successful in position
• Demonstrated skill in writing and editing logical, detailed, and analytical reports
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
• Experience in utilizing the Internet to gather information
• Ability to work with highly confidential materials with discretion
• Outstanding analytical skills
