The Data Analytics Internship is part of the Technology team. This internship will support strategic initiatives that enhance cloud financial operations and asset lifecycle management through research, analytics, and data quality improvements. This role focuses on cost governance, usage insights, and asset data integrity to drive operational efficiency and informed decision-making. Wellmark is building innovative, modern solutions using cutting edge technology. What projects might I support?  Although subject to change, examples of projects are included below:  

• Research and validate best practices for optimizing cloud financial operations and cost governance. 
• Analyze cloud usage patterns, identify anomalies, and perform root cause analysis to help teams monitor and control spend.  
• Assist with asset data analysis and quality checks across key sources to ensure accuracy and completeness. 
• Identify data gaps and trends that inform lifecycle planning and sustainability strategies.  
• Support development of dashboards and metrics for reporting on financial and asset health.

This internship will start in May of 2026, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines. 

• Current junior, senior or master's student studying Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related STEM field. 
• Familiarity with cloud service platforms and consumption-based billing models.  
• Foundational understanding of cloud services (AWS and Azure experience a plus). 
• Knowledge of financial analysis and cost optimization principles. 
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret usage and asset data to identify trends. 
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to make recommendations by translating data analysis insights into decisions and actions. 
• Proven ability to work in a deadline driven, fast paced environment. 

Preferred: 

• Prior internship or office experience. 
• Previous experience with Power BI or Tableau. 
• Previous experience with SQL dialects and/or statistical programming languages.
