Software Engineer (Remote/Hybrid)

Whether your background is in software engineering, web development, or a related technical field, you can thrive in this role. As an internet-based company, we’re looking for someone with an AI first mindset, strong coding skills, and a solid grasp of software engineering principles. Specifically, we’re looking for the following qualifications:

  • Experience with CI/CD build/release pipeline management tools

  • Proficiency in Web APIs and microservice architecture

  • Experience with C#, .NET, TypeScript, Angular, SQL Server, MongoDB, or related databases

  • Experience with AI coding assistant such as Windsurf, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Cursor

  • Preference for Agile product delivery

  • Familiarity with GIT, Change Management, and application lifecycle management tools

If you’re comfortable managing application lifecycles, navigating these tools and technologies, and influencing others without formal authority, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

About The Role:

As a Software Engineer at Veterans United Home Loans, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining the software that makes life better for our coworkers and the Veterans we serve. Your work will focus on creating front-end and back-end solutions that support our mission—helping Veterans and service members achieve the dream of homeownership while driving business goals in the mortgage and real estate space. You’ll also help drive the use of AI and automation to boost efficiency and enhance user experience.

We're seeking a Software Engineer to join us remotely in either Columbia, St. Louis, Kansas City, or Springfield, MO. This position offers the flexibility of remote work with a hybrid touch. While you can do the majority of your work from home, there’s real value in connecting face-to-face occasionally with your teammates. Our hubs provide a space for collaboration, brainstorming, and those spontaneous “aha!” moments that happen best in person, which is why all hires are within a short drive to our offices.

The pay for this role ranges from $70,000 to $105,000, based on your experience and skillset.

Here’s a snapshot of what you’d be doing:

  • Building and delivering functional, reliable software using core technologies like .NET, C#, Angular, and TypeScript, all within an Agile development environment.

  • Applying Domain-Driven Design, writing Clean Code, and embracing object-oriented programming to create solutions that work seamlessly.

  • Collaborating with your team through planning sessions, retrospectives, and open communication.

  • Working closely with Architects and Product Owners to turn requirements into smart, actionable business logic.

  • Helping to shape and adopt Software Engineering standards, focusing on key areas like security, reliability, and stability. You’ll ensure borrower data is handled with care and transparency throughout the life of a loan, keeping everything running smoothly.

  • Pitching in wherever needed (excluding licensed tasks) and help foster a supportive and collaborative team culture.

About You:

  • Driven Developer: You thrive in an environment where your passion for software engineering shines through. You love seeing your hard work lead to meaningful results and helping business needs become reality.

  • Genuine and Transparent: You believe in showing up as your true self every day. Authenticity is key in building strong, trusting relationships. Your honesty is your superpower.

  • AI-Minded Innovator: You’re always on the lookout for ways AI and automation can make things smarter, faster, and more impactful—whether it’s improving internal tools, personalizing user experiences, or uncovering new insights from data.

  • Adaptable Engineer: Change is your playground. You excel in dynamic settings, quickly adapting to new challenges and using your skills to achieve your goals in an ever-evolving landscape.

  • Speed Enthusiast: High stakes and fast-paced environments energize you. You recognize the importance of supporting your team and clients efficiently, navigating complex tasks and processes with ease and enthusiasm.

  • Communicative Collaborator: Your ability to connect with others through clear and confident communication sets you apart. You’re a natural at engaging with your team and stakeholders, ensuring everyone is on the same page and moving towards success.

  • Problem-Solving Pro: Your analytical mind and strong problem-solving skills allow you to tackle any challenge that comes your way. You’re always looking for innovative solutions to enhance the lives of others.

About Us:

We’re all about helping Veterans and military families become homeowners. In two short decades, we closed over 500,000 VA Loans and became the #1 VA lender for homebuyers in the nation. But to us, success isn’t measured in numbers. Our success is measured in living our values every day: Be Passionate and Have Fun, Deliver Results with Integrity and Enhance Lives Every Day. We always strive to provide friendly service to military homebuyers and their families. And we always seek to lift up people and communities across the country.

We’re so glad you’re here checking out this opportunity!  If this role gets you excited but you’re worried you don’t check every box – don't sweat it. We’re more interested in what you can bring to the team than a perfect checklist. If you’re passionate, driven, and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.  Come as you are, and together we’ll create something amazing.
