Overview
Union Technologies is reindustrializing America’s defense manufacturing from our Dallas headquarters. We’re hiring a Forward Deployed Software Engineer—a Swiss-army-knife operator who will own deployments end-to-end, plug gaps in the field, and do what it takes to get lines running. If you’re as comfortable on a factory floor as you are in a Linux shell, we should talk.

Responsibilities

• Land and activate complex cells: take custom equipment from dock-to-production with our on-prem SCADA and MES software integrations
  

• Own deployments: plan, install, configure, harden, and validate software in air-gapped/OT-constrained environments; create and execute cutover and rollback plans.
  

• Close the last mile: write custom Python scripts to glue systems, transform data, automate operators’ workflows, and back-fill vendor gaps.
  

• Crush the punch list: execute Factory/Site Acceptance Test (FAT/SAT) punch lists; attend tests as needed; turn findings into fixes fast.
  

• Commissioning assist: step past the boundary of controls when needed—pair with controls engineers to troubleshoot PLC/field I/O, networks, and timing.
  

• Make it observable: Drive the roadmap on high value logging/metrics/tracing
  

• De-risk scale: Identify high touch deployment processes and drive towards automation so the the 2nd, 5th, and 10th deployments get easier.
  

Requirements

• Python as a daily driver for automation, data munging, and quick services (CLI tools, REST/messaging glue).
  

• Linux + CLI proficiency (systemd, networking tools, filesystems, SSH, packaging, containers/Docker).
  

• Industrial integrations: hands-on with one or more— Ignition, OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, MQTT, or similar.
  

• Networks in the wild: VLANs, NAT, VPNs, DHCP/DNS, L2/L3 troubleshooting (pcap/arping/tcpdump)
  

• Ownership under pressure: you’ve owned the success of a mission critical operation.
  

Bonus Qualifications

• Ignition SCADA systems; Grafana/Prometheus/ELK; Timeseries DBs
  

• PLC familiarity (Allen-Bradley/Siemens)
  

• OPC UA modeling, MQTT Sparkplug B, historian pipelines, or OT-friendly cybersecurity practices.

• Experience deploying software in air-gapped or highly regulated environments.
