Staff Mechanical Engineer
Skills
- Proficiency in CAD and PDM tools (SolidWorks or OnShape) for part and assembly design
- Strong GD&T, tolerance analysis, and datum definition skills
- Experience designing and specifying motion control systems and components
- Static and dynamic stress/strain analysis, vibration testing and analysis
- Hands-on prototyping skills using 3D printing, machining, and test fixtures
- Experience with supplier management and part procurement
- Familiarity with CMM/OMM inspection and measurement setups
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and test reports
- Experience integrating mechanical systems into manufacturing lines (roll-to-roll or sheet-to-sheet a plus)
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and validation of a low-temperature plasma-based metrology sensor platform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, systems) to develop and integrate sensor modules into manufacturing lines.
- Perform experimental studies and characterization to quantify sensor sensitivity and platform performance.
- Iterate designs with direct client feedback to optimize integration speed and usability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation: requirements, 3D/2D CAD, assemblies, BOMs, assembly and test procedures, and test reports.
- Design for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability (DFx) and support product launch activities.
- Perform tolerance analysis, GD&T application, and select motion components (motors, stages, couplers, gearboxes).
- Coordinate with suppliers for parts procurement, lead times, and quality control; set up inspection processes (CMM/OMM familiarity).
- Perform static/dynamic stress and vibration analysis and apply mitigation strategies informed by sensitivity and risk analyses.
Education
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Minimum 6 years of relevant industry experience
