Skills
- Active New York LVT license (preferred/required per posting)
- Safe, compassionate animal handling and restraint
- Anesthesia administration and monitoring
- IV catheter placement and fluid therapy
- Radiography and dental radiography experience
- In-house lab testing and sample handling
- EKG acquisition and basic interpretation
- Client communication and education
- Electronic medical record (paperless) documentation
- Familiarity with DEA and OSHA safety guidelines
- Medication dispensing and pharmacy support
Responsibilities
- Provide clear client communication, status updates, pre/post-op and home care instructions, and medication guidance
- Educate clients on preventive care, vaccines, laboratory procedures, and hospital services; prepare estimates and discuss financial commitments
- Greet clients, escort patients, and support smooth exam room and front desk transitions
- Safely restrain animals and assist veterinarians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures
- Prepare surgical patients, administer and monitor anesthesia, and monitor recovery
- Place and manage IV catheters, administer fluids, and perform emergency interventions as needed
- Perform laboratory tests, digital radiography, dental radiographs, and EKGs
- Maintain accurate patient records in a paperless medical record system and support proper billing documentation
- Assist with dispensing medications, preparing prescription labels, and pharmacy tasks
- Maintain surgical materials, equipment, inventory, and cleanliness of surgery, ICU, exam, and treatment areas
- Follow DEA, OSHA, and hospital safety protocols
Education
- Licensed Veterinary Technician in New York (per requirements)
- Or current veterinary technician student (may be considered)
- High school diploma or GED minimum
- Willingness to pursue continuing education opportunities
