Job Summary

The Assistant Director, Prospect Research and Management at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business and plays a crucial role in supporting fundraising and engagement efforts. This role is a strategic partner who contributes to the success of the division through the implementation of day-to-day processes in all areas related to prospect research and management. As the role has both prospect research and prospect management responsibilities, it assists in creating a robust donor pipeline, informing donor strategies through research and data deliverables, and executing research and portfolio management requests. The Assistant Director will engage their manager, fundraising and engagement partners, and advancement services colleagues across Chicago Booth and the University to successfully achieve their goals and meet expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies new prospects in order to grow the Booth prospect pool through day-to-day prospecting and screening protocols, participating in strategic prospect identification projects when necessary.
  • Uses electronic and print resources to develop and synthesize information on prospects to produce clear and actionable research including background, career, financial capacity, philanthropic interests, and nature of their relationship to the University and Chicago Booth.
  • Develops and demonstrates skill in reading and interpreting complex documents, including regulatory filings, and proficiency in terms used in the financial services industry.
  • Executes prospect research cases and assigns requests primarily from front line staff in accordance with team guidelines and standards.
  • Builds and maintains a suite of data audit reports to ensure accurate reporting out of the alumni database and the associated data maintenance within the database.
  • Creates reports and provides key observations on prospect research and management related objects including the prospect pool, solicitation activity, visits, capacity ratings, and other prospect data.
  • Provides prospect recommendations for gift officer portfolio building and management.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the Research and Prospect Management team, fundraisers, and senior staff to implement prospect research and management functions to ensure an efficient prospect cycle for the Booth prospect pool.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the data available in the University’s constituent database including prospect research and management entry and maintenance.
  • Participates in regular Booth Advancement training sessions focusing on prospect data functions and policies. 
  • Contributes to team goals toward achieving overall department objectives.
  • Conducts prospect research, prospect management, strategic planning and market research on prospects and donors.
  • Develops, maintains, and updates information on new and existing prospects, solving problems as they arise.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Working Conditions

  • This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.
  • Travel to campus and/or non-campus locations for University business.
