Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Powertrain Design and Evaluation (PDE) Department is looking for a passionate, highly motivated R&D Engineer with expertise in EV charging systems and HEMS (Home Energy Management System) design.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead prototype design, development, and validation of HEMS-related products, including uni-directional chargers, bi-directional chargers, V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) units, V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) units, and inverters.
Reporting to the Manager, Powertrain Design and Evaluation, the person in this role will support PDE’s mission to advance Toyota’s electrification strategy by developing safe, innovative, and competitive charging solutions for the global market.
What you’ll be doing
Leading prototype design and vehicle integration for chargers, inverters, and V2X systems in collaboration with suppliers and Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan).
Benchmarking market products, defining specifications, and ensuring compliance with IEC, SAE, UL, and CPSC safety regulations.
Coordinating development gates, schedules, cost analysis, and technical issue resolution through launch.
Creating and reviewing CAD models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets using Toyota Design Process and Standards.
Building strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders including engineering teams, purchasing, suppliers, and planning groups.
What you bring
Experience in automotive design and development.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
Proficient CAD skills with strong understanding of electrical circuits and GD&T.
Knowledge of DRBFM, DFMEA, FTA, and LT-SPICE.
Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).
Added bonus if you have
Knowledge of consumer products in EV charging and HEMS design.
Ability to release electrical and mechanical specifications through established processes.
Hands-on manufacturing experience.
Additional relevant engineering experience.
Proficiency in creating 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets.
Exposure to evaluation or testing procedures.
