Responsibilities
- Prosecute state and local criminal offenses in municipal courts, including case screening, preparation, hearings, trials and appeals
- Prepare and review City Code ordinances and advise City departments on enforcement and ordinance language
- Pursue civil remedies and nuisance abatement lawsuits under Texas statutes (e.g., Ch. 125, Ch. 54, Ch. 211) including preparing cases for bench/jury trials
- Appear in court and administrative hearings representing the City and its departments
- Draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, and legal opinions for assigned matters
- Conduct legal research, written discovery, depositions, and negotiate settlements as needed
- Monitor compliance with local, state, and federal law and provide guidance on enforcement options
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- License to practice law from the Supreme Court of Texas
- At least two years of increasingly responsible experience in city or related governmental law, including litigation
