Registered Nurse - Outreach & Testing Program

The Registered Nurse will aid with the delivery of patient care during the respective clinic hours of operation. This role will report to the Testing Support Supervisor, with clinical oversight from the Nurse Manager. This role requires flexibility to work standard 8-hour clinic shifts on Monday-Friday, with occasional nights and weekends.  

What you would do:

  • Assist with the evaluation and care of patients seen at Kind Clinic, including, but not limited to: preparing patients for examination, taking vital signs, verifying patient information by interviewing patients, and recording medical history. 
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, including the provision of lab services, and the distribution of medications and treatments according to the organization's clinical SDO's 
  • Conduct patient physical examinations according to accepted standards of care and within the definitions of the Texas Nursing Practice Act. 
  • Teach and counsel patients concerning health assessment and care including prevention of disease, disability, hygiene, and health maintenance in a safe, affirming, and culturally appropriate manner. 
  • Provide clinical training to new Testing staff and volunteers and relevant feedback to the Program Manager regarding training progress. 
  • Adequately reviews and prepares charts prior to seeing patients in clinic. 
  • Serve as a mentor to testing staff and volunteers. 
  • Act as a liaison and collaborate with Patient Support Center RN team as needed. 
  • Follow organization’s clinical SDOs, policies and procedures when interpreting lab results, sending lab results, sending medication prescription or scheduling treatment appointments. 
  • Follow Texas DSHS notifiable condition reporting requirements related to in-clinic diagnoses of presumptive primary syphilis and acute HIV.  
  • Prioritize work tasks and services and completes tasks in a timely manner.  
  • Maintain accurate, clear and concise progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists.  
  • Communicate appropriately and tactfully with staff, patients, partners, and community.  
  • Actively engage in a quality improvement culture within department/organization and participate in identified quality improvement activities. 
  • Participate in staff, planning, in-service, and other meetings as needed.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Sharing and presenting critical updates and medical information to outreach testing team.  
  • In a safe, affirming, and culturally appropriate manner, teach and counsel patients concerning health assessment and care including basic hygiene and health maintenance and prevention of infection and disease. 
  • Maintain a clean work environment in the treatment room, Including organization of the Med locker, Medical Waste Bin, Examination Bed, and Storage cabinets. 
  • Conducts inventories to track the supply of medications/medical supplies and orders more when required.

Compensation

This position is classified in salary grade 46, with a base hourly pay range of $32.00 to $34.00, based on your qualifications and relevant experience. In addition to competitive base pay, this role is eligible for quarterly performance bonuses that reward strong results.

Your previous work life and education must include:

Education and/or Licensure – H.S. Diploma or equivalent work experience required. Current RN licensure in the state of Texas required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must be obtained before hire date. 

Experience – 1+ years’ experience in patient care in an outpatient setting required. Experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalized communities a strong plus. Microsoft Office Skills with an ability to become familiar with company or position specific programs or software. 

Your previous work life and education ideally include:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience in HIV testing, HIV services, STI testing, and treatment clinic
  • 1+ years of experience in working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ and other marginalized populations
