Research Engineer, Generalist

Synchron is a neurotechnology company developing a minimally invasive, commercially scalable brain-computer interface (BCI) to restore digital access for people with paralysis. The Neuroscience team seeks a generalist Research Engineer to design, build, and maintain user-facing software, real-time data processing pipelines, and ML experimentation tooling to support research and productization efforts.

Skills

Expertise in Python and Swift
Hands-on experience with scientific computing libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy)
Experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
Familiarity with time-series data and real-time information processing
Full-stack software experience with an emphasis on clarity and simple system design
Strong problem-solving, communication, and ability to work in high-agency environments

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain user-facing software for high-precision, real-time data processing
Develop and support machine learning experimentation and coordination tooling in the cloud
Create custom analysis libraries to support data science and ML workflows
Collaborate with Neuroscience, Software, Systems, and Clinical teams to productize research technologies
Manage technical work with third-party vendors and integrate external components
Document code, processes, and experimental findings for internal and external use
Support developers and data scientists integrating research tools into broader systems

Education

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
