Greenhouse Department Manager
Skills
- Knowledge of plant care (annuals, perennials, herbs, cacti, tropical/indoor foliage)
- Familiarity with pest and disease identification and basic treatments
- Experience with inventory and ordering systems
- Retail cash handling and register familiarity
- Leadership and team scheduling skills
- Merchandising and product placement
- Physical stamina for lifting up to 60 pounds and working outdoors/wet conditions
Responsibilities
- Assist with opening/closing the store and assigned cash management duties
- Interview, select and train new employees in cooperation with HR
- Assign duties, schedule work hours, breaks and vacations per business needs
- Coordinate merchandising, new product implementation and pricing with Home & Garden Managers and Buyers
- Perform any department responsibilities as a working manager, including plant care and sales
- Handle damages/returns and ensure claims are processed and forwarded to Corporate Office
- Oversee ordering of departmental supplies and merchandise from approved vendors
- Supervise and perform departmental inventories for accuracy
- Train team members on store policies, department procedures, product knowledge and safety
- Maintain awareness of register procedures and store closing procedures
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Horticulture coursework or related training is a plus
