Scientist/Senior Scientist, Immunoassay Products

Spear Bio, founded in 2021, is a well-funded and rapidly growing biotech start-up headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts.  Our proprietary technology, Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR), is a novel wash-free immunoassay platform, offering unprecedented sensitivity. We are dedicated to revolutionizing early disease diagnosis and monitoring by providing scalable, ultrasensitive solutions that deliver unparalleled accuracy in measuring low-abundant biomarkers, enabling clinicians and researchers to improve patient outcomes and advance global health.

Spear Bio is seeking a Scientist or Senior Scientist with strong expertise in immunoassay development and manufacturing support. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing, optimizing, and commercializing next-generation immunoassay products. Acting as a subject matter expert, this individual will also be responsible for assay troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and ensuring robustness, reproducibility, and scalability of Spear Bio's products.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate immunoassay product, process or test method development or project improvement with a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment.

  • Independently design, execute, and analyze experiments to justify technical decisions.

  • Document experimental results in detail, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for immunoassay products, leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions while leveraging interdisciplinary expertise across biology, chemistry, engineering, and materials science to address complex technical challenges.

  • Identify opportunities for product and process improvements, assay scalability, and cost effectiveness to strengthen performance and competitiveness.

  • May mentor junior scientists and contribute to fostering a culture of scientific rigor, creativity, and collaboration within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field, with strong record of innovations or scientific publications in top industry publications.

  • 2+ years of relevant postdoc or industry experience independently developing immunoassay products (e.g., ELISA, multiplex assays, Simoa, MSD, ECL, or bead-based platforms) required.

  • Proven track record of troubleshooting commercial immunoassays, and identifying and implementing technical solutions required.

  • Strong EQ, with ability to make insightful recommendations that improve assay performance, and drive consensus and alignment from cross-functional teams on proposed technical solutions

  • Experience with assay validation, transfer to manufacturing, and product commercialization.

  • Excellent data analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, with ability to clearly present complex data.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a hands-on and collaborative mindset.

We offer competitive compensation, meaningful stock ownership, comprehensive benefits, and a great work environment. This is an opportunity to enter an innovative, high-growth startup at an early stage and play an integral role in the company's growth and success. We are focused on identifying candidates who have demonstrated leadership and excellence throughout their careers and are excited by the prospect of building an industry-leading company.
