Brand Design Lead

The magic of small teams can exist at any organization.

We started Span to address a pattern we'd all lived: as teams expand, context is buried under layers of meetings, tools, people and process. Things begin to stall in the "outer loops" like prioritization, allocation, collaboration, and management—areas where mistakes and inefficiencies are arguably more costly.

We are creating a new type of tool that delivers coherent and useful software engineering context for humans and agents alike, a tool that we believe will enable ownership, autonomy, and superhuman impact inside of an engineering organization.

  • The hours tied up in tagging, status reporting and coordination meetings are automated away so that people spend less time on busywork and more time on the real work.

About the role

As the first Brand Designer on the team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a world-class Span brand. This is an opportunity to explore without creative constraint, push the boundaries on norms, and leverage the latest technologies to redefine what’s possible from a small team. You’ll have the chance to craft compelling experiences across a diverse range of touchpoints including web, editorial, brand campaigns, events, in-product, and more.

Brand and storytelling is extremely important to us and we’re at an exciting inflection point as a company. As a result, you’ll collaborate closely with people across the company (including leadership).

What you’ll do

  • Deliver strategic, high-impact visual designs across all brand touchpoints, ensuring consistency, scalability, and innovation.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with GTM partners, product marketing, and leadership to deeply understand the needs of prospects and customers, proposing strategic design solutions that ladder up to business goals.

  • Lead the evolution of our brand design foundations, balancing the need for standardization of high-quality patterns to increase efficiency with the flexibility to push the brand’s creative boundaries for bespoke campaigns and programs.

  • Own and drive scalable brand solutions, optimizing design processes and frameworks to maximize team efficiency and unlock more conceptual thinking.

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years of brand design experience, with expertise in at least one core area of design and a deep understanding of how design functions as a powerful storytelling tool.

  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability, proactively leading cross-team initiatives and working on complex projects.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, making complex ideas accessible, clearly articulating trade-offs, and fostering strong partnerships across teams and senior leadership.

  • A passion for pushing creative boundaries, looking beyond the brief to drive innovation while balancing scalability and business impact.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and an outcome-oriented mindset, able to navigate open-ended problems and provide clear direction end-to-end

  • A strong and pragmatic eye for craft, holding a high bar for craftsmanship while considering constraints, deadlines, and business objectives.

  • A passion for learning and self-improvement. You’re not afraid of a challenge and can thoughtfully implement feedback immediately.

  • You thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment and embrace the hustle.

We’d be especially excited if you have...

  • Experience as an early creative hire at another startup.

  • Experience (and a passion for) embracing new tools and technologies, including AI, to make you and your team more efficient.

  • Experience working on brands in the B2B/SaaS space, complex multi-product platforms, or technical products.

  • Experience collaborating across multi-timezone and global teams.
