Skills
- Proven negotiation and drafting experience in international digital music license agreements
- Deep understanding of global digital music rights landscape, especially Europe
- Expertise in music industry deals (record, distribution, producer, sync, publishing)
- Working knowledge of Music Modernization Act and DMCA
- Familiarity with AI and Web3 implications for music rights
- Ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders
- Strong relationships and network within music/media/consumer tech industries
- Active bar license and ability to practice as a qualified lawyer
Responsibilities
- Structure, draft and negotiate digital licensing agreements with record labels, publishers, collecting societies and PROs worldwide
- Negotiate marketing, partnership and joint venture agreements with commercial partners
- Advise Music, Marketing, Creator Services, Royalty Operations, Finance and other teams on contractual obligations
- Provide legal guidance on music law, IP (copyright and trademark) and licensing developments
- Identify and analyze legal, contractual and reputational risks related to content distribution
- Lead pre-litigation investigations and responses to claims including copyright, breach of contract and trademark
- Manage and supervise outside counsel
- Coordinate with product and engineering on product development related to music distribution and royalties
- Collaborate with Business & Legal Affairs colleagues to align legal strategy with business objectives
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
- Active, in-good-standing bar license in the U.S. or equivalent jurisdiction
- 3+ years post-qualification experience in music and IP licensing
