CTS Application Scientist

The Role:

We are looking for our next Customer Technical Services (CTS) Application Scientist within our Americas CTS team. The CTS Application Scientist will be responsible for providing technical support in applications to validate and promote Roquette ingredients primarily including plant-based protein, fibers, starches, and polyols. This person will develop and test applications at the bench and pilot plant level to ensure Roquette ingredients function as promised and will share results internally and occasionally with customers.

This position is located in Geneva, IL.

Compensation:

The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $85,000-$95,000. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop & test dairy / plant-based and specialized nutrition applications including ready-to-drink beverages, ready-to-mix powders, nutrition bars, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream  
  • Provide support to customers on deeply technical projects or challenges
  • Collaborate with Technical Developers, R&D, Quality, and Marketing to solve technical problems related to Roquette ingredients within applications and create prototypes for external promotion
  • Conduct shelf-life studies and perform lab analysis on applications; set up and operate lab and pilot plant equipment
  • Maintain detailed records of lab and pilot trials, as well as create reports and slides, to protect innovation and patenting opportunities
  • Deliver technical trainings or seminars to internal and external customers to ensure an understanding of Roquette ingredients and appropriate applications
  • Create and update SOP’s for lab, equipment, and processes as needed for efficient daily operating and identify areas for improvement
  • Participate in industry technical discussions to keep informed of upcoming technologies
  • Work as part of a team to coordinate and meet multiple project timelines
  • Contribute toward an inclusive and positive workplace culture
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, training requirements, cGMP’s
  • Follow food and human safety requirements, maintain cleanly lab areas including 5S

What You’ll Need:

      Education:          

  • BS/MS in Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, or equivalent

      Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of industry food product development experience with strong interpersonal skills in Food Development
  • Basic process knowledge in dairy and plant-based beverage & cultured products and/or nutrition bars, with demonstrative hands-on experience in pilot unit operations and manufacturing support
  • Ability to quantitatively review technical procedures and regulations
  • Understanding of ingredients and usage, interactions, and processing
  • Experience with experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation of results
  • Capable of writing detailed reports and experience in literature search and familiarity with peer-reviewed scientific journals is desired
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups and respond to questions from other teams and departments
  • Shows high degree of proactive thinking and great organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project)

Work Environment

  • This role is fully onsite at the Geneva, IL office with 75-80% of the time in the lab and the remaining time sitting at a desk

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in a lab with occasional loud noises or strong aromas. Ability to lift up to 25 lb. Employee must be able to work with & taste a variety of food products including the nine major food allergens.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position, regular office hours Monday-Friday
  • Occasional flexible hours required when traveling 

Business Travel:

  • Travel <5%, mostly domestic with rare international travel (EU)
