Replicated is hiring a hands-on engineering leader to join our growing team!
Our development group is organized in the form of pods of full stack teams with clear areas of ownership within our product ecosystem. We encourage and support teams to own their product metrics and focus on consistently delivering value to our customers.
We are looking for a Head of Engineering who will spend time coding and building while also empowering the team to deliver on their key priorities. This is a technical leadership role where you'll be writing code regularly alongside managing resources, reviewing metrics, and ensuring we deliver quality products with speed and efficiency. A big part of joining us at this stage is to help contribute to the advancement of our product through both your direct technical contributions and leadership. We believe in continuous improvement along with a growth mindset, we support each other to learn and grow so we can continue to have the best engineering and team culture.

Be hands-on with coding and architecture, driving both velocity and technical excellence through direct contribution
Drive product vision and technical strategy using your engineering expertise and market understanding
Partner closely with Product while also leveraging your technical background to influence and shape product direction
Champion AI adoption and integration within engineering practices, leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and product capabilities
Assess incoming customer issues and personally contribute to solving complex technical challenges
People Leadership:
Lead a team of technical leads and engineers, focusing on growth, development, and delivery
Hire, support and contribute to the growth of the Engineering organization
Startup Agility:
Thrive in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities shift and change frequently
Adapt quickly to new technical challenges, market feedback, and evolving customer needs
Work cross functionally with other groups needed to successfully implement initiatives in a dynamic, ever-changing landscape
Develop a deep understanding and clearly communicate the problems and opportunities of our users and customers; advocating for and driving forward solutions with startup speed and flexibility
Technical Excellence:
Active coding experience building and delivering highly technical products, ideally for a developer audience
Experience with AI tools and technologies, with a passion for integrating AI to enhance engineering workflows and product capabilities
Demonstrated understanding and application of modern product delivery techniques, especially iteration and value validation
Hands-on experience with deploying, managing, and/or operating Kubernetes is essential
Leadership & Collaboration:
Experience supporting and developing individuals on your team (people management is important but represents only one aspect of this role)
Champion AI adoption across the engineering organization, identifying opportunities to leverage AI for improved productivity, code quality, and innovation
Proven ability to influence product direction through technical expertise and customer understanding
Strong partnership skills with Product teams while bringing your own technical perspective to drive product strategy
Startup Mindset:
Startup experience is highly valuable - we need someone who can adapt and pivot quickly as we grow and evolve
Ability to support the team through constant change and shifting priorities typical of early-stage companies
Champion of remote and distributed first culture with flexible communication styles
Communication:
Strong written and verbal communication across all mediums
Able to articulate technical concepts and work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in open source software and cloud-native ecosystem
Experience working on products in the developer tools space
Track record of successfully implementing AI solutions
In your first 30 days: Your goal is to dive deep into both the technical architecture and the codebase while learning about the company, team and product. You will complete hands-on technical training with the product, complete the onboarding checklist, and meet with team members from across the company. Expect to start contributing code and understanding current technical initiatives.
In your first 60 days: Begin taking on coding responsibilities for key projects while outlining how to break them down into iterative deliverables. Lead weekly planning and standups, supporting your engineers while contributing technically to solutions. Evaluate current AI tool usage and identify opportunities to enhance engineering productivity through AI adoption. Partner with our CTO and expand your partnership to the wider product and engineering org. Use your technical insights to review metrics and work with senior leadership on success indicators.
In your first 90 days: With full context, you should have full ownership of both engineering delivery and technical direction. Drive career development conversations with engineers while maintaining your active coding contributions. Develop and implement an AI strategy for the engineering team, including tool adoption, process improvements, and potential product enhancements. Own engineering deliverables and actively participate in defining technical strategy and building viable solutions. Be prepared to pivot and adapt as business needs and market conditions evolve.
