Job Summary
The Red Hat Customer Content Services (CCS) team is looking for a Principal Technical Writer to join our expanding organization. In this role, you will promote customer loyalty and success by leading content development and delivery. Drawing from your passion for technology, you'll work closely with software engineers, quality experience, user experience, field teams and support engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs. As a Principal Technical Writer you will work with dynamic, fast-paced Agile teams to bring to market new and exciting technologies.

What you will do
Work closely with content strategists, documentation program managers, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to lead the creation and maintenance of high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat’s offerings
Effectively manage and deliver customer-focused documentation aligned to business priorities
Mentor and provide feedback to other technical writers to improve the quality and consistency of our content
Proactively work with quality engineering (QE) and development to improve the accuracy of your documentation
Lead engagement and collaboration with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
Influence and contribute to the achievement of customer, operational, or program objectives
Gain expertise in the use of our internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue tracking tools
Keep up to date on changes to our offerings, customer use cases, support issues, and business strategy to propose new techniques and methods based on business context
Share findings of independent research and understanding of your product area, including related trends and topics in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and machine learning operations (MLOps)
Coordinate engagement with upstream communities to influence and lead upstream documentation and process improvements
Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing LLMs (e.g., Google Gemini), as relevant, for tasks such as brainstorming solutions, deep research, summarizing technical documentation, drafting communications, summarizing complex technical information, and enhancing problem-solving efficiency across the development lifecycle.
What you will bring
Extensive experience with the software development lifecycle, including the customer lifecycle, and with different content development and publishing methodologies, tools, and defect-tracking systems
Experience with structured, topic-based authoring and information architecture; experience with DITA is a big plus
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration in a global team environment, proactive engagement of subject-matter experts, and follow through on project commitments
Experience with version-control systems and Git
Demonstrated experience with Agile and rapid iteration releases
Experience leading cooperative efforts among teams and diverse sets of stakeholders to solve complex problems
Ability to inspire others irrespective of their job title
Demonstrated leadership in technical content delivery and proven ability to lead through a rapidly changing environment
Demonstrated success adapting to change in a dynamic environment and taking accountability for project prioritization, execution, and completion
Extensive understanding of AI, ML, and MLOps concepts and technologies
Experience working with upstream open source communities
Demonstrated success working with developer tools and documenting developer infrastructures

The salary range for this position is $104,080.00 - $166,320.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
