AI Won’t Steal Our Jobs? Tell That to My Team

I just read yet another tech exec insisting that AI isn’t going to steal our jobs wholesale. OpenAI’s COO literally claims there’s “no evidence” AI is replacing entry-level workers en masse (Sam Altman even insists it will create jobs), while another AI CEO warned the tech could eliminate 50% of entry-level jobs in the next five years

Meanwhile, my company just “restructured” our support team and quietly replaced a bunch of entry-level roles with a chatbot FAQ and GPT-based automation. No evidence, huh? Look, I’m no Luddite – I love AI tools when they help. But it’s infuriating to hear billionaires tell us not to worry, when on the ground we’re watching colleagues (especially junior folks) get let go because some manager fell in love with the latest AI toy. Maybe new jobs will appear eventually, but that’s cold comfort if you’re getting axed today. I’m upskilling as fast as I can, but part of me wonders if I’m training the AI that will replace me. Anyone else feel like these leaders are in denial or just gaslighting us about AI and jobs?
