Job Description: We are looking for a talented and experienced Backend Software Engineer to expand, develop, and maintain the server-side infrastructure that powers our SmartMast oceanic sensing system, Web Portal, Tablet / Mobile applications, and 3rd party integrations. This role focuses on building robust, scalable, and secure backend systems that support API access and efficient data processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of backend technologies, cloud infrastructure, and security best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient backend systems using Node.js, Express, and MongoDB.
Develop and manage RESTful APIs with Swagger documentation to provide secure and reliable data access for web and mobile applications.
Implement and maintain MongoDB database systems, ensuring data integrity, performance, and security.
Work with AWS services (primarily Kinesis Video Streams and S3) to manage video streaming, storage, and retrieval.
Ensure API security by implementing JWT authentication, role-based authorization, and rate limiting measures.
Implement real-time communication features using Socket.IO for notifications and live updates.
Provide application support and troubleshoot backend issues to ensure high availability and performance.
Collaborate with front-end engineers (React) and product managers to define API requirements and data structures.
Monitor and optimize backend performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks in API and database operations.
Write and maintain clear technical documentation for backend systems and APIs using Swagger.
Qualifications (Preferred):
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Backend Software Engineer with expertise in Node.js and Express.
Strong understanding of MongoDB database design and Mongoose ODM.
Experience with AWS services, particularly Kinesis Video Streams and S3.
Proficiency in RESTful API design, development, and documentation with Swagger.
Experience with real-time communication technologies like Socket.IO.
Knowledge of security best practices including JWT authentication, rate limiting, and secure password handling.
Experience with application monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting in Node.js environments.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
