Mechanical Engineer – Concepts & Structural Configuration

We are a mission-driven ocean energy and renewable technology company building large-scale, long-duration systems to harvest ultra-low-cost renewable energy from the ocean. We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer experienced in conceptual layout, system configuration, and structural design to help create simple, robust, and manufacturable Nodes that will operate unattended in extreme marine conditions.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Siemens NX or comparable 3D CAD
  • Experience with FEA tools (Nastran, Femap, NX Simcenter)
  • Strong hand calculation and structural sizing skills
  • Experience with linear, non-linear, and buckling analysis
  • Familiarity with Teamcenter or similar PDM systems
  • Design-build-test cycle experience
  • Ability to translate test results into design changes
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication
  • Vendor and fabrication collaboration experience

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage skeleton models and mechanical layout configurations in Siemens NX.
  • Perform preliminary sizing, hand calculations, and detailed structural analyses (linear, non-linear, buckling) using FEA tools like Femap, NX Simcenter, and Nastran.
  • Evaluate multiple design concepts and iterate toward simple, robust, and manufacturable solutions.
  • Serve as primary structural analyst for early-stage subsystem evaluations (primary structure, electronics enclosures, drivetrains, deployment systems, test apparatus, ground-support equipment).
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Interpret scale model test results and incorporate findings into full-scale system designs.
  • Collaborate with vendors and fabricators to ensure manufacturability and performance alignment.
  • Manage design data and configurations using Teamcenter.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (required)
  • Graduate degree in mechanical/structural/aerospace/marine engineering (preferred)
