Overview:

The successful applicant will provide research expertise and leadership in designing and conducting complex interdisciplinary research proposals and projects on sustainability topics; works collaboratively with Ohio State faculty, researchers, and external partners and is recognized as a research expert in energy-land use systems modeling, coupled human-natural systems, and integrated assessment. In addition, contributes to sustainability research strategy at Ohio State through developing data management systems to track research impacts, perform advanced data analytics, and identify new opportunities for interdisciplinary research and teaming. The successful applicant will work on multiple large, complex projects at a time with significant project responsibilities, interfacing with a cross-section of faculty, staff, and research leaders from multiple disciplines and colleges across the university and with external collaborators from academic and non-academic sectors.

Duties:

Works with a high degree of independently on multiple complex projects and proposals in collaboration with Ohio State faculty, Sustainability Institute staff, and external partners to grow transdisciplinary research and secure resources to support this research on sustainability challenges facing Ohio relating to energy, land use, water, and agricultural systems and the health and well-being of people and communities.

• Lead funding proposals to local, state, federal funding agencies, industry, and foundations on these topics.
• Lead or co-lead transdisciplinary teams of researchers and external partners in co-developing research and the modeling, data analysis, and translational methods needed to inform solutions to local and regional sustainability challenges.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary research leaders and staff to secure extramural research funding.

Lead the development of integrated assessment models and tools to guide practical solutions that enhance the efficiency of U.S. Midwest agricultural, energy, and water systems.

• Lead the design and development of predictive land use and economic models for the U.S. Midwest to project agricultural, forest, urban, and other land use changes under baseline and alternative regional and global change conditions.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to integrate spatial land use, economic, and biophysical models to project long-term economic and environmental outcomes under alternative conditions and policies.
• Take the lead on analysis, modeling, writing, and publishing the above work.
• Support the PI and co-PIs in managing the research, including leading discussions of model integration, mentoring predoctoral students in scholarly work, and advising on data management systems and software development.

Develop data management systems and perform data analysis and modeling to catalyze and grow interdisciplinary research teams affiliated with the Sustainability Institute.

• Provide extensive analysis and management of data on researchers at Ohio State, including their areas of expertise, collaboration networks, funding sources, and research impacts, to inform research development strategies, including new team formation.
• Provide data analysis, modeling, software development, and data management expertise to funded interdisciplinary research projects and programs in sustainability. Programs include those that involve multiple PIs, universities, non-profits and government organizations from the U.S. and other countries and covering a breadth of sustainability science and disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in agricultural, environmental, or applied economics with three years relevant experience required or five years of relevant experience required with a Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in data management, econometric modeling, predictive modeling, integrated assessment models
• Experience in interdisciplinary research settings

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in higher education interfacing with research faculty
• Experience with proposal writing and development in higher education
• Excellent organization, written, and verbal communications skills
• Team oriented and highly collaborative while thriving autonomously

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $75,700 - $98,900. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, unit’s 
available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
