Reporting to the Managing Director, the Assistant Director for Buckeye Commons provides leadership for the development, planning, and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote holistic student well-being, success in and outside of the classroom, and preparation for life after graduation. Buckeye Commons is a new center within Student Life that serves as an open, inviting, and multi-purpose space for students to connect, build community, and access resources and programming that impact their ability to engage, learn, and thrive.

The Assistant Director contributes to the visioning, planning, and coordination of student development-focused programs, services, and outreach initiatives including workshops, educational offerings, and one-to-one or group coaching. This role assists in the development and delivery of educational content and curriculum aligned with Student Life’s student learning goals, stays informed on student success and development theories to support program design and staff development, and works towards increasing student persistence, retention, and graduation rates.

The Assistant Director collaborates with campus partners to promote and integrate their programming and resources into Buckeye Commons. This role leverages data-informed approaches to student outreach and program development and contributes to marketing and communication efforts in partnership with Student Life Marketing and Communications. The Assistant Director also works with central services offices, including Technology Services and the Center for the Study of Student Life, to ensure Buckeye Commons’ needs align with division-wide priorities.

The role will supervise 1 full-time professional staff member, 2 graduate teaching associates and undergraduate student employees, including performance management planning and coaching conversations. This role is an active member of the department and Student Life through participation in workgroups and committees, support for Student Life events, including during evenings and weekends as needed. In addition, this role upholds and furthers Student Life’s Culture Commitments and conducts special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in student success, student affairs, student development, leadership, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of student development and support theories.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating student success programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively.
  • Experience planning and supporting student events.
  • Knowledge of student success outreach strategies and strategies to increase student engagement.
  • Prior supervision experience of student or full-time staff.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • 8-12 years of experience in student success, student affairs, student development, leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising student staff or graduate assistants.
  • Familiarity with student success platforms and technologies.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, including faculty engagement.
  • Strong knowledge of current research and best practices in student retention and success.
