Part-time Faculty: Research Methods and Statistics

Position Summary

The School of Public Service, in the College of Law and Public Service at the National University, invites applications for part-time faculty in the Public Administration and Criminal Justice Doctoral programs, with a specialization in Quantitative Methods. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of or potential for excellence in teaching in their field and a commitment to serving the university’s diverse adult student body. This position primarily works closely with the Academic Program Director and other faculty within the program and contributes to ensuring program quality, student engagement, and success.

Essential Job Duties:

• Provide substantive, timely feedback to students on various assessment activities.
• Maintain a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment.
• Complete required tasks on deadlines (e.g., final grades, assessment, grading rubrics, input for grade appeals, etc.)
• Maintain appropriate professional training and/or scholarly activities, when applicable.
• Provide feedback to the course lead regarding the course content.
• Identify at-risk students and collaborate with student services.
• Teach graduate-level courses in statistics, research design, and quantitative analysis.
• Explain concepts such as sampling, measurement, validity, reliability, and statistical inference in an accessible manner
• Guide doctoral students in selecting and refining quantitative research questions.
• Advise on selecting appropriate research designs (e.g., experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational).
• Provide direction on operationalizing variables and developing data collection instruments.
• Review dissertation student proposals and manuscripts to ensure methodological alignment with research questions and hypotheses.
• Ensure compliance with best practices in quantitative methods, including sampling adequacy, power analysis, and reproducibility of results.

Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in the field of Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, or related field from a regionally accredited university, required.
• Demonstrated expertise in experimental or quasi-experimental design,  required.
• At least 2 years of higher education teaching experience required.
• 2 years of teaching experience in quantitative methods, required
• 12 graduate hours of quantitative methods and/or statistics, required. 18 graduate hours of quantitative methods and/or statistics preferred.
• Additional training or demonstrated knowledge in quantitative statistical software (e.g., SPSS, G*Power), preferred.
• Evidence of scholarly research and publication using quantitative methods in peer-reviewed outlets.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies.  Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position.
