Job Description

NBC4 and T52 Los Angeles is looking for a dynamic Specials & Consumer Producer who is passionate about creating memorable, impactful storytelling across multiple platforms. This role is ideal for a journalist with strong field producing skills and a vision for long-form, docuseries-style projects, as well as day-to-day consumer investigative content that resonates with Southern California audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and field-produce consumer and special projects, including docuseries and long-form storytelling for broadcast and digital.
  • Research, write, and edit high-impact investigative and enterprise content for TV, streaming, and social platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with the Responds investigative reporter on stories, teases, and multiplatform specials.
  • Develop original ideas and enterprise consumer stories with lasting audience impact.
  • Act as a key liaison with NBC’s Consumer Investigation Center and Telemundo’s Responde unit.
  • Build and maintain a robust network of sources, experts, and community contacts to fuel investigations.
  • Monitor, vet, and follow up on viewer tips and consumer concerns.
  • Identify emerging consumer trends and transform them into compelling stories.
  • Oversee multiplatform projects, including digital video series, podcasts, and social media-first storytelling.
  • Provide editorial guidance, manage tips and records requests, and conduct on-camera and field interviews.
  • Lead investigative projects that may include undercover reporting or surveillance when necessary.
  • Support newscasts as a writer/producer when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field—or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in television news production, with strong emphasis on field producing.
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be willing to work full-time on-site at our NBC4 Los Angeles newsroom.

  • Candidates must apply online via nbcunicareers.com

Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum 3 years of consumer investigative or long-form producing experience.
  • Proven track record of producing docuseries or specials that deliver memorable, high-quality storytelling.
  • Field producing and interview expertise, including work with photojournalists and editors.
  • Experience with non-linear editing and news photojournalism.
  • Strong writing and producing skills under deadline, without compromising accuracy or creativity.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws as they apply to investigations and undercover reporting.
  • Excellent research skills, including data analysis and open records requests.
  • Understanding social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.) and emerging storytelling formats.
  • Strong editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and familiarity with libel laws.
  • Collaborative spirit with the ability to communicate and lead across teams.

Additional Requirements:

Salary: $130,000 to $150,000

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
