Logos Space is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite system purpose-built to serve the connectivity needs of the commercial enterprise users and government users. We will help fill an important gap in the market, providing resilient, high-performance satellite-based connectivity services to enterprise and government customers worldwide. Business customers have contracts with agreed-upon performance standards for their broadband, and Logos will build these capabilities into the system from the beginning. Speed and reliability are the foundation of the system. Logos is designed to extend cloud and data center network connectivity anywhere in the world to fixed, seaborne, and airborne terminals.
Logos is led by a team of highly experienced engineers with proven track records in the networking and satellite industries.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineering team at Logos Space work on design, development, flight validation, assembly, integration, test, and inflight success of the logos fleet of spacecraft. The development of suitable facilities and the required ground support equipment also falls within the purview of the ME team. Mechanical engineers will support both bus and payload activities from the idea stage to flight.
You should be prepared to work and thrive in a fast moving environment where you are comfortable taking vague design ideas and turning them into tangible hardware ready for test and flight. We are seeking engineers who love to solve hard problems!
The full responsibilities include:
Analysis & Modeling:
Develop, mesh, and analyze complex Finite Element Models (FEMs) of spacecraft structures, mechanisms, and components using industry-standard software (e.g., NASTRAN, PATRAN/FEMAP, ANSYS, Abaqus, HyperMesh).
Perform a wide range of structural analyses, including linear and non-linear static stress, modal, frequency response, random vibration, transient shock, buckling, and thermo-elastic analysis.
Interpret analysis results, calculate margins of safety according to established criteria, identify potential failure modes, and provide actionable recommendations for design optimization (especially mass reduction).
Correlate analytical models with structural test data to refine predictions and validate designs.
Hardware Design & Implementation:
Design/Analyze primary and secondary structures for spacecraft components, spacecraft subsystems and ground support equipment, including panels, fittings, and support structures, using metallic and/or composite materials.
Select appropriate materials, processes, and joining methods (fasteners, bonding) considering strength, stiffness, mass, thermal stability, manufacturability, and cost.
Review and sign off detailed engineering drawings for analysis support and confirmation
Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and procurement teams to ensure hardware feasibility and quality.
Testing & Validation:
Develop comprehensive structural test plans and procedures for qualification and acceptance testing (e.g., static loads, modal survey, sine/random vibration, acoustic, shock).
Design/Analyze test fixtures, specify instrumentation requirements, and support test setup.
Provide technical oversight and hands-on support during structural testing activities.
Analyze and interpret test data, troubleshoot anomalies, and author detailed test reports.
Collaboration & Documentation:
Interface effectively with other engineering disciplines (Systems, Thermal, Mechanisms, Manufacturing, Integration & Test) to ensure a cohesive spacecraft and payload design.
Prepare and present detailed structural analysis reports, design review materials, and test documentation to internal teams and potentially customers.
Contribute to failure investigations and anomaly resolution.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
3+ years of professional experience demonstrating significant expertise in both:
Detailed structural analysis (FEA) of complex mechanical systems (preferably aerospace structures) using tools like NASTRAN, FEMAP, ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.
Structural hardware design, material selection (metals, composites), fabrication support, and/or structural testing (static/dynamic) for high-performance applications.
Strong theoretical foundation in structural mechanics (statics, dynamics), solid mechanics, and material science.
Proficiency with at least one major FEA software package (NASTRAN preferred).
Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA) for model review and basic geometry manipulation.
Understanding of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, and structural testing methodologies.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science (MS) or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with a focus on structures or solid mechanics.
5+ years of direct experience in spacecraft structural analysis, design, and testing.
Expertise in the design and analysis of composite structures (laminate theory, failure criteria, manufacturing methods).
Hands-on leadership experience in planning, executing, and correlating structural tests (static, vibration, acoustic, shock).
Proficiency with FEA pre/post-processors (e.g., FEMAP, PATRAN, HyperMesh).
Experience with fracture mechanics, fatigue analysis (e.g., NASGRO), and damage tolerance.
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NASA-STD-5001, SMC-S-016).
Ability and willingness to attain a Top Secret Clearance
