Job Description

Internship Program Highlights

Curious about the realities of being a structural engineer? KPFF’s internship program immerses students in the profession, connecting classroom learning to real-world experience. Interns are involved at every stage of building design, from conceptualization to completion, working alongside a supportive and experienced team of structural engineers.

This is not your ordinary internship —it is a genuine opportunity to contribute to actual projects and see your hard work come to life!

What You Will Experience:

  • Project Engagement: Work directly on actual projects, gaining practical experience beyond what you learn in the classroom.
  • Site Visits: Join site visits and observations for firsthand exposure to construction methods and progress.
  • Design Process Insight: Observe how creative concepts evolve into technical plans, coordinated with architects and contractors, and ultimately realized on-site.
  • Team Collaboration: Integrate with engineers, designers, and project managers, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to each assignment.
  • Structural Software Training: Apply structural analysis and simulations using industry-standard tools such as Revit, RAM, and RISA. Help us solve complex problems integrating AI tools.
  • Educational Webinars: Our team at KPFF Latitude puts on several educational webinars a month driven by our CIP Team. Their focus is both on technical topics and also sessions on relevant industry topics.

    KPFF’s Commitment to You:

    • Help contribute to meaningful projects you can visit and proudly claim as part of your early career journey.
    • Receive one-on-one mentorship from passionate and  experienced structural engineers.
    • Develop professional skills and form valuable connections for your future career in structural engineering.
    • Become part of a workplace culture that celebrates collaboration, creativity, and exploration.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Most duties are performed in an office setting, requiring extended periods of sitting at a desk or computer.
    • Occasional lifting of objects up to 15 lbs may be required.
    • Field observations and site visits may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or traversing uneven ground.

    Position Details and Compensation

This is a temporary, non-exempt position. Overtime is compensated at one-and-a-half times the hourly rate. The salary is competitive and based on experience, education, location, and skillset; qualified candidates can expect a pay range of $26–$35 per hour.

    Qualifications

    • What we are looking for:

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Civil or Architectural Engineering, with a focus on vertical structures.
    • Curiosity, initiative, and a strong desire to learn.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
    • Basic understanding of the fundamentals of structural engineering, including free body diagrams and P/V/M diagrams, coding, and mechanics of materials.
