Steeped in a tradition of hydropower, American Hydro is a leading supplier and installer of large equipment for the hydro electric industry, specializing in design, engineering, precision CNC manufacture, upgrades and servicing of high-performance, hydro-turbines and large pumps.

Job Description

Position Summary & Objective

The Hydraulic Engineer II is accountable for the hydraulic design and performance of hydro turbine equipment. This role is accountable for the development of cost-effective custom equipment designs at the proposal stage and achievement of the budgeted costs at the final design stage.

Essential Functions Performed by the Position

  • Responsible for the hydraulic design and layout of custom hydro-turbine equipment.  Prepares and analyzes hydraulic designs using CFD methods.
  • Leads model or field testing to confirm hydraulic performance.
  • Serve as the technical lead on moderately complex projects with support from experienced engineers.
  • Leadership of an engineering team may be required as part of a project or as part of a process improvement to improve departmental capabilities or manufacturing processes.
  • Support Hydraulic Engineering Proposal Manager with proposal engineering, including interface with Sales and Marketing, proposal preparation and technical presentations to customers.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of hydraulic engineering computer software
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of hydraulic engineering standards for product design and manufacture
  • Occasional preparation of technical papers and presentations at major conferences
  • Work under the direction of experienced engineers on complex and demanding projects.
  • Conduct internal design reviews with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Support additional project requirements as needed for Project Management, Proposals, Procurement, Operations, and Field Service departments.
  • Coordinate with Operations and Field Service departments to resolve technical problems that arise during manufacture or installation of equipment.
  • Perform after-market field testing and troubleshooting of turbine installations under the direction of experienced engineers.
  • Satisfy ISO Quality Standards as it relates to the design function
  • Assign appropriate work to co-ops and Engineering Trainees
  • Support development and training as necessary and help train less experienced engineers

Development Responsibilities

  • Development of hydraulic analysis tools or methods as directed by Manager of Hydraulic Engineering 

Authorities

  • Approval of shop and field non-conformances and disposition of non-conformances with input from experienced engineers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Proficient with CAD software

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering
  • 2-6 years’ experience required

Licenses or Certifications Required

  • None

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Normal Office Environment

Travel Requirements (percent)

  • Up to 10%
