Job Description

This position is responsible for supporting Intuitive’s International Government Affairs function, contributing to the development and execution of the company’s international government affairs strategy.

This role will contribute to activities that advance Intuitive’s policy goals, including engagement with relevant external stakeholders and trade associations.

The role sits within Intuitive’s Global Public Affairs (GPA) team, responsible for Intuitive’s strategy and activities across government relations, patient advocacy, corporate reputation and media relations.

Reporting to GPA’s International Government Affairs Lead, the Senior Specialist will work with GPA team members across the globe and with cross functional teams such as Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Market Access and Global Trade Compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Global Policy Monitoring and Analysis

  • Monitor and research current and emerging public policy issues and trends that impact Intuitive’s global business, including global business operations and commercial strategy in key international markets.
  • Develop insights and briefs summarizing activities of government agencies, trade associations and think tanks focused on international policy.
  • Understand, clearly synthesize, and integrate complex issues in presentations, messaging documents and other communication(s) for key senior level internal and external audiences.
  • Attend meetings, events and conferences to capture external perspectives and policy insights for GPA team and business; accommodate multiple time zones as needed.

Government Affairs

  • Committed to exceptional execution of international government affairs strategies to increase Intuitive’s influence and visibility within the international policy community and on policy areas of importance to the business.
  • Coordinate and support GPA engagement with key government stakeholders who shape the trade policy agenda and work in a bilateral/multilateral context, across the US and in coordination with in-market colleagues in geographies across the globe
  • Collaborate with trade associations and other third parties to contribute to advocacy strategy.
  • Assist with the drafting technical submissions, white papers, and external materials that reflect the company’s perspective on public policy issues and topics.
  • Support local and regional business executives, as well as regional GPA colleagues, with specific requests for information, advice, industry data, and briefing materials for government meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate regular touchpoints with internal business stakeholders as needed to cultivate working relationships as well as inform strategic judgments and tactical execution.

Organizational Support

  • Ensure organizational clarity, assuring that the function’s activities, messages, and materials support the achievement of broader public affairs, country-specific, and company-wide goals and policy priorities.
  • Assist with day-to-day administrative tasks associated with external government affairs firms and other vendors.
  • Assist in management of internal budgets and associated processes such as invoices.
  • Draft and send correspondence; update calendars, prepare internal reporting materials as needed.
  • Provide logistical and event management support for stakeholder engagement as needed.
  • Assist with development, tracking and reporting of internal goals.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Affairs, or related areas.
  • 5 years of experience working in a government affairs or policy related role; such as government agencies; think tanks; or trade associations.
  • Familiarity with international markets, trade policy, global organizations, and government institutions that influence trade and foreign policy.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and analytical skills; including ability to effectively assess and summarize policy issues.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint; able to capture complex topics in clear presentations
  • Exceptional organizational skills and agility; including the ability to manage multiple projects and activities spanning diverse countries and topics.
  • Ability to tailor and effectively curate materials for external and external audiences.
  • Proactive approach to learning new topics; issues and areas of policy.
  • Willingness to contribute to projects that fall outside of core responsibilities, as needed.
  • Must be an effective collaborator, able to work within a dynamic and highly matrixed environment.

Preferred :

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Affairs, or related areas
  • Experience working in healthcare sector organization and/or global corporate environment is desirable
  • Proficiency in a second language (i.e. Chinese) is a plus

Candidates located in the San Fransico Bay Area preferred. Candidates with proven experience in other locations will be considered.
