We the people (and the taxpayers) deserve good government â but today, interacting with government services is often frustrating and inefficient. GovWell is building the AI-powered platform that transforms how governments serve communities, starting with local agencies.
Our first product helps municipal and county governments modernize by automating complex processes like permitting and licensing, while streamlining services for residents. It combines a highly configurable SaaS system of record with generative AI that automates workflows, guides residents through government systems, and is radically simple to implement and maintain.
Founded in 2023, GovWell already powers critical workflows for agencies in 27 states, serving millions of residents. Weâve raised $9.5M in seed funding from Work-Bench and Bienville Capital. Read more about our founding story in TechCrunch.
GovWell is hiring a Founding Mobile Engineer to build our first-ever mobile app, bringing government services directly to residentsâ fingertips. Youâll lead mobile development from the ground up â defining the architecture, technology choices, and user experience for a product that will reshape how millions of Americans interact with their local government.
This role reports directly to our CTO and Co-Founder, Ben Cohen, and offers the opportunity to take end-to-end ownership of the GovWell mobile experience as one of our earliest engineering hires. Youâll be responsible for creating a world-class mobile product that complements our core platform, designed for inspectors, administrators, and residents alike.
We have a hybrid work culture that combines regular in-person collaboration at our New York City office (3+ days per week) with flexibility to work remotely.
A mission that matters: Building AI-powered products to fix outdated government systems isnât just a technical challengeâitâs a historic opportunity to improve our foundational relationship with government and ensure trillions of tax dollars result in high quality services. Real-world impact: GovWellâs product is the system of record for government services that affect millions of Americans. From streamlining permitting for small businesses to accelerating affordable housing development, your work will make an immediate difference.
Join a startup in hyper-growth: Weâve found product-market fit and are scaling the business very quickly (6X ARR growth in the last year). As an early team member, youâll learn what it takes to build a successful startup. Youâll work closely with the founders while enjoying exceptional autonomy and ownership over your work.

Collaborate with the Founding Designer to deliver an elegant, accessible, and intuitive user experience.
Integrate seamlessly with our backend APIs, ensuring smooth and secure mobile workflows for inspectors, government staff, and residents.
Establish mobile best practices, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and performance monitoring for reliability at scale.
Work closely with founders to translate customer needs into high-impact mobile features.
Iterate rapidly using feedback from real-world government deployments.
3+ years of professional mobile development experience, with strong proficiency in either:
Native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) and/or Android (Kotlin/Java), OR
Cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter).
Experience taking a mobile app from 0 â 1, ideally at a startup or high-growth environment.
Strong understanding of API integration, offline-first design, mobile security, and performance optimization.
You think like a product owner, constantly asking how your work improves resident and government experiences.
Youâre comfortable working with ambiguity and defining new standards in a greenfield environment.
Youâre excited about leveraging AI models to improve both resident-facing features and your own developer workflows.
Youâd rather have a challenging adventure building something new than coast on maintenance work.
You align closely with our Core Values.
