Gensler is committed to driving change across our industry, with our clients, and in every city where we live and work. We are leading this change by starting from within.

We are focused on ending systemic racism in the architecture and design profession while also taking decisive steps to address diversity, equity, and inclusion at Gensler. We are determined to be part of the solution as an ally, which is why we are taking action that creates opportunities for the Black community, BIPOC communities, and other underserved people.

In 2020, Gensler created a strong foundation by establishing its Strategies to Fight Racism. The firm has since created its Global Race and Diversity Committee, launched a student design charrette with seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities, introduced Black Lives and Design research grants, and recruited and hired more Black professionals. These ongoing initiatives build upon our inclusive people-first philosophy and reinforce our unique firm culture. At Gensler, we are a constellation of stars and every voice counts.

In order to create equitable and inclusive places and spaces, we must first strive to build a firm from top to bottom with people that are representative of the diversity, authenticity, and local culture of the cities we help reimagine. Our annual Gensler Diversity Report represents our commitment to driving change in our firm, across our industry, with our clients, and in every city that we live and work. The publication measures our progress in our ongoing actions and programs to support diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our Purpose

As we meet the moment to tackle issues of global wellness, climate change, and social equity, our purpose has never been more clear: We seek to create a better world through the power of design. For over 50 years, this ideal has been a beacon on the horizon, and it will continue to shine brightly for our people and our clients for the next 50 years. That's because we create design that matters for people, and in the process, we reimagine our world, one community at a time.

Our People

PEOPLE-FIRST

We have the best talent in the industry — a team of 5,500 leaders and innovators driven by our shared purpose to improve how people experience the places we build.

Gensler's hallmark entrepreneurial spirit has become a culture that empowers people to pursue their passions and design their career paths within the firm. People are our greatest asset, and their passion, commitment, and hard work are the reason we lead the design industry.

Led by our Guiding Principles, we are one global community with a culture that has never been stronger and a purpose that has never been clearer. Now more than ever, we have the opportunity to reimagine the future of cities and create an equitable future for everyone.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

As part of our people-first ethos, we place a high value on a diversity of people and thought. We believe our capacity for innovation grows when we embrace the perspectives of individuals from different places, backgrounds, and cultures. Two years since we first announced our Strategies to Fight Racism, we continue to evolve our efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion. From partnering with our clients in designing equitable spaces, to creating opportunities in our industry for diverse talent, we're taking on an ever more localized and nuanced approach in each of our communities.

Our Design

DESIGN INNOVATION AND DELIVERY

Gensler’s designers work globally on a broad range of projects, from new urban districts and developments to workplace interiors, retail centers, airports, learning centers, and more. Delivering a design that is informed, purposeful, innovative, and compelling means we encourage our people to explore new solutions to age-old problems.

ADDRESSING CLIMATE CHANGE

We believe that addressing climate change is the moral and business imperative of our time. As the world’s largest design firm, Gensler has a unique obligation and opportunity to focus on sustainability in the built environment. GC3 - or the Gensler Cities Climate Challenge - is our five-part roadmap for how we intend to help our clients reach their carbon targets and our goal of making every building in our portfolio net zero carbon.

Community Impact

In light of the growing and urgent needs in our communities, we've stepped up our steadfast commitment to volunteer service and pro bono and low bono work to enhance the human experience in cities across the globe with compassion and ingenuity.

Gensler is committed to creating positive, enduring change through social responsibility and civic engagement in the communities where we live and work. Through our work with the next generation of students, designing for health and wellness, supporting and creating solutions for housing and homelessness, and preserving the environment, we’re shaping the future of cities.
