Senior/Staff Behavior Planning Engineer
Skills
- Experience in behavior planning with behavior trees, finite state machines, or rule-based planners in autonomous systems.
- Strong proficiency in C++ including performance optimization, memory management, and software architecture.
- Solid knowledge of motion planning and prediction interfaces for real-time, safety-critical systems.
- Strong debugging, system thinking, and collaborative communication skills.
- Familiarity with diffusion models and Vision-Language-Action models is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain the core behavior planning system for autonomous vehicles enabling intelligent and safe decision-making.
- Develop and extend behavior tree architectures for hierarchical decision logic including mission planning and contingency handling.
- Collaborate closely with motion planning, prediction, and control teams to ensure smooth integration of high-level decisions to vehicle trajectories.
- Build and optimize C++ software infrastructure including simulation, debugging, visualization, and closed-loop testing tools.
- Evaluate planner performance in real-world and simulated settings, identify failure modes, and improve robustness.
- Participate in design reviews and system integration within the autonomy stack.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural guidance for junior engineers.
Education
- Ph.D. with 3+ years or Master’s with 5+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or behavior planning.
