Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Student Success, the Sr. Associate Athletic Director/Director of Support for Student Athletes is responsible for leading and implementing day-to-day operations for the Office of Student-Athletic Advising in their mission of providing holistic support for Fordham NCAA student-athletes to fulfill their academic potential and make progress toward degree completion.

The Director works collaboratively with the Fordham College Advising Center and advising staff in the Gabelli School of Business and academic administrators in other colleges and schools at Fordham. The Director is a key liaison between the academic areas and Fordham’s Office of University Athletics.

Essential Functions        

  • Leads the office in meeting its mission of providing holistic support to student-athletes; identifies strategic goals and vision for the office; implements initiatives to support these goals, and regularly assesses the success of initiatives.
  • Develops proactive and reactive strategies, drawing on best practices and informed by Fordham’s context, to ensure robust support for student-athletes.
  • Leads implementation of the Fordham Hub (powered by Salesforce) to provide wraparound student support and identify and prioritize students who would benefit from intervention and support; assists in developing programs focused on strengthening retention and graduate rates for student-athletes.
  • Ensures close collaboration among the student-athletic advising team, the Fordham College Advising Center, and the Gabelli School of Business deans to support student progress and success.
  • Facilitates the review of the academic performance of student-athletes to ensure that the university complies with NCAA and conference requirements (NCAA Certification).
  • Assist with required NCAA reporting, APR, and GSR, etc.
  • Creates and maintains academic benchmarks to share with campus leadership.
  • Develops and maintains close relationships with coaches and other individuals in the Office of University Athletics; as needed, shares information to ensure effective student support; identifies and assigns staff to liaison positions in the Office of University Athletics.
  • Supervises staff in the Office of Student-Athletic Advising and is responsible for the Office’s budget.
  • Responds to regular inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and other administrators concerning academic and course-related issues. Understands and complies with all FERPA regulations and maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Participates in recruiting sessions with prospective student-athletes and their families during official on-campus visits; assists with special events and honors ceremonies for these students.

Management Responsibilities  

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with academic support programming for student- athletes in an NCAA intercollegiate environment, preferably at a Division 1 institution, with progressive responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Familiarity with best practices in student-athlete support and success and working with a varied, diverse population of students.
  • Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA regulations.
  • Proficiency in (or ability to quickly learn) common software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, organize, prioritize, and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Understanding of and commitment to furthering the Catholic Jesuit mission in liberal arts higher education.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with Banner, Salesforce, TEAMWORKS, Degree Works,
  • NCAA Applications and web management systems a plus.

Minimum Starting Salary: $110,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $126,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
